Description
There seem to be a few areas in Morrowind that have random heavy lag, but toggling off Collision through the console fixes the lag entirely. A prominent example is the Madach Tradehouse in Gnisis, and another is the area surrounding the Shashurari Camp (but not the inside of the tent).
I am using a custom race, OOO and MMM, but do not believe any of these is the cause. For the moment toggling collision is functional if unideal. I submit this bug mainly to see if there is already a fix, if it is an isolated incident with my install of the game, or just to inform the developers.
Thanks very much in advance.

This doesn't make much sense. Maybe some collision scripts that get turned off when you use tcl are bloating the game?
Can you start picking up all pickable objecs and check if that changes anything (I am talking about the tradehouse)?
Also try disabling the fern plantsusing the console (open console, select fern plant with mouse and type in disable).
I experience the same thing. I've also noted the lag varies based on the direction I'm looking. Standing in the entrance way, and looking slightly up and to the right, my fps drops to around 2. Looking behind me at the door, the fps climbs back up to 8 or so (which is currently my normal fps for morroblivion).
Also, I'll note that I have Eloth's visual overhaul, and Hashmi's Collsion Redone For Eloth's overhaul (along with everything else recommended on the intall directions
).
I have also tried disabling various things, including the plants with no noticeable effect. The only thing that seems to (usually) have an effect is disabling the candelabra on the upstairs table (towards the back), but even that seems to be fairly slight.
I am having the same issue usually around gnisis, and balmory so far. Depending on what direction i am looking at. Are you guys having the lag in the same places?
I experience lag in the same places each time, yes.
SO gnisis and balmora seem to have the lag? Something to do with those places for the most part i guess.
I've experienced this lag in Ald'Ruhn mages guild... when walking along the top level, around the open lower lever.
Ald'Ruhn mages guild also has stuttering faces... but that's another story.
@diznanl: And does that lag go away when you use tcl?
Yes... I also get the lag (though not as bad) when in the rocky molag amur lava areas. TCL fixes this.
I've noticed that that lag happens sometimes after I've knocked something over, even in an indoor setting, it will just stutter down. This happened at Ghostgate in the Temple. I hit some of the candles/whathaveyou in the middle of the room and my gameplay almost came to a stuttering halt. I didn't try TCL in this instance, but I imaging it would have solved the problem.
Thanks,
dizzznanl
Try out this hotfix for the Ghost Gate temple and tell me if it makes any difference (just extract and copy to your oblivion folder like normal mods ... you should overwrite some files).
@Hashmi1
I've seen this condition in several past versions of the masterfile. For me, it happens in the ashlands east of ald ruhn. Actually, just about anywhere in the southern ashlands north of The fields of Kummu. Also, Cliffracers cause a severe slowdown too. Maybe a cliffracer (or 12) is/are getting stuck inside a rock or something and is using a lot of resources trying to free themselves, causing the stutter and slowdown. Cliffracers seem to use a lot of resources normally, anyway.
And ..
I'm not sure whats happening, but when I try to unzip the 'hotfix' it errors out (see below).
I use Winrar 3.60 .. (yes, winrar can open and process 7z archives)

Extracts for me with WinRar 3.9something.
The real question is, 'does it fix the slowdown problem?'
@Steph: It causes errors with WinRar (3.5) for me too ... but 7zip works fine. 7zip is free and works great ... so I guess you could try it out.
I have 7zip. it works with that. Odd that winrar won't open it, tho ..
So, has anyone any feedback on the slowdown issue? Does this 'hotfix' fix it for anyone?
Yes, this fixes the slowdown with the candles (even if it made them all fall over when I went into the cell after installing it).
However, many such objects are affected, so it's not a "complete" fix, if that's what you're asking. Cliffracers won't be fixed by this patch, and fixing them would be no simple task because they don't appear to be buggy - they just happen to be able to collide with a lot of stuff other critters can't. At one stage I ended up with a big pile of racer corpses in front of Ghostgate, all of which were blown into a corner by a storm; didn't cause any performance issues at all. On the other hand, they only seem to cause slowdown when alive... The game returns to normal the instant they die.
There's a lot of stuff in the world, but I've noticed what usually triggers the racer lag is Daedric and Dwemer ruins. In the case of Dwemer, both the interiors and the exteriors have problems. I would go as far as to say that the Dwemer doors need looking at, but I'm afraid I can't be any more precise for now. I also know of a Daedric structure that triggers slowdown, but it's hard to describe and for some reason my Oblivion installation badly mangles any screenshots I ask it to take.
Another example of broken collision is here, which Opal posted a fix for; dunno if it ever got combined into the main project. I'd found that certain ankhs caused massive slowdown whenever any live (again, as opposed to dead) creatures collided with them.
Hashmi's Collision Redone mod likely takes care of a lot of lag issues. It's thus far the only Morroblivion mod I've installed, but I haven't been using it long enough to tell what affect it has on general gameplay yet.
there is alot of places that have this bug... i dont know if there is a issue with something in general or if it is a ton of little things that has to be redone...
but one thing is sure is that turning off distant buildings helps alot for lag in cities. it also remove distant rocks so i think its why it makes the game THAT faster. dosnt help with TCL bug tho..nor cliff racers...
BTW guys who did that mod, i cannot tell how much you did a great job. its blazing amazing! I hope you do an ''Obrowrrim'' in a couple of years!
