.SPT ( SpeedTree ) Conversion
More info will be posted later, getting late on this side:
I am still hoping to hear back from Macorn if the suggested tree conversion is posible. It is posible I know that, I did all SI trees already but the result is not very good. Conversion has to be done automaticly with the correct tools for it to be perfect.
Here is a first impression of a manualy converted tree:
Top = Oblivion tree with billboard nodes
2de = NifSkope version of Skyrim tree with fond nodes
3th = Skyrim tree with single fond nodes
Botom = Skyrim tree with dual fond nodes
For some reason I cant port over the Billboards correctly so I whent for fond nodes, like seen in all default Skyrim tree models.
Yeah that is definately a lot of lost foliage, but I guess it is a start.
Guys, want help. But right now can't, I'm too tired from programing.
Need a little rest

Try GrowFX, it's compatible all the way through to 3DS Max 2013
it's around £300 so perhaps we could all muck in and get a licence if its right for the job, i doubt anyone wants to start pirating here might aswell try and keep this as above board as possible
I am not trying to make new trees; I am trying to convert the Oblivion one to the Skyrim standard. The only problem I have at the moment is the conversion of the billboard nodes. Without billboards the trees do not have any leaves.
Yes i know your trying to convert i think GrowFX can be used to import .spt files into 3ds Max 2012, i assumed that's what you needed? And i wasn't being serious i was being sarcastic

Well i found this here: http://lumion3d.com/forum/importing/speedtree-studio-6-compatibility-question/?action=printpage
i'll quote it:
"There is a reasonable alternative product to Speedtree that I have been
using for a number of years now called GrowFX, a plugin for 3ds Max.
It's certainly not as fast or friendly to use as Speedtree, but the
results are just as good in most cases, and around 97% cheaper!! And
there are no restrictions, you can use the content in any other
application, therefore you only need to create a plant or tree once.
If anyone is interested : http://exlevel.com/ (http://exlevel.com/)
About
$325 for a single user license. A number of Youtube tutorials are
available for GrowFX, and the latest version also has wind effects that
can be adjusted for each plant/tree component.GrowFX 1.7.0 - Creating
Wind Animation (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lg3xVmKRCLI#ws)
I
did have an interesting conversation with IDV regarding their product
suite, pretty much to the effect that it was completely useless to offer
more affordable products for creating content for such a narrow range
of applications. There really needs to be some serious competition in
this area to drive down prices.
Cheers..(I think I'll be sticking with GrowFX!!)"
It's an alternative to SpeedTree so i assume it would do the same thing. Theres also this free alternative aswell: http://www.itoosoft.com/forestpack.php
If all else fails, you could use a trial version of 3DS Max so you can use the Digimation SpeedTree 4.1 plugin right?
Trial: http://files.modacity.net/software/3dsmax/3dsmax9.zip
No I cant, I used those in the past, imposible for me to run those again.
damn hope you wouldn't say that short of a complete system reset or dualboot you can't, way too drastic of a measure
take it you've used from 4 all the way up then.
You could try using a Virtual Machine.
SB,Have I lost the plot here,are you just trying to get the trees that are in Oblivion into the ObliviSkyrim world spaces.?
YES, thats the plan.
Has this already been done, hope not ?
No,not to my knowledge,I can help with this [maybe],but the trees in Oblivion move [well the leaves do],but in Skyrim they seem to stand still.
Have we got to make them move like the originals.?
The grass sways in the wind too.
Oblivion uses a fixed trunk with some branches and billboard leaves that move in the wind independent from the branch movement.
Skyrim has to my knowledge a fixed trunk with some branches and so called fond meshes as leaves that move in the wind when the branches move.
I do not like the Skyrim fond meshes due to the fact that they are:
- Fixed to the branches, move with the branch
- They look flat from certain angles
- They disappear when looked at from the side
At this point I have no idea if Skyrim trees will even work with billboards leaves.
Understood SB,I will use the first option for a few tests [Oblivion tree with fond meshes],Speedtree can be used to test different wind speeds etc,and I can tweak the texture in my paint progs.
Then if I can add billboards [that respond to the wind differently than branches],it might work.
Will post a pic later if I can get all the tools to behave correctly,I am having some trouble getting the .spt files into max,but I have some other tools that should be ok.
I have the same problem as you SB,I can`t get the .SPT plugin to work on my max install.

yea i had the same problem myself yesterday installed everything, can't import an .spt
We could use the Skyrim pine trees for the northern snowy areas,as they would be pine trees leading up to the Bruma and higher mountain areas.

is it possible to convert morrowind tree model to speedtree, alas morrowind tree branches with speedtree leaves?
No I can’t import models into SpeedTree at this moment.
The problem is that I can’t export from 3DsMax in a SpeedTree file format.
If I could then it would be possible I think.
Here's big modder's resource for trees:
Thank for the TIP. That resource looks realistic, maybe it will be used in time.

Also check Lush Trees for mesh variants and Trees HD vor better and a more variate texture. Unfortunately the mods are designed for Skyrim foliage and not Morrowind's. But maybe the mods are helpful if the authors agree to share their resources.
how much smaller are oblivion's textures compared to skyrim?
@Dark_Ansem:
I think the Oblivion Textures are 512x512 / 1024x1024 / 2048x2048 are the same size, it all depends what quality texture packs you are using.
I see some members have downloaded the “TES4 - Tree Meshes Shivering Isles” resource, plaese let me know if the models in this package are usable in game. If the resource is usable I will continue with converting all the .SPT Oblivion SpeedTree files to Skyrim .NIF Files.
I was just wondering becouse It’s been 7 weeks now without any feed back or requests for all the Oblivion tree meshes.

Hey SB, do you think you could do something like this to give us a good idea of how the Oblivion to Skyrim tree conversion looks? For example, I was thinking maybe look up the few types of trees that are in Seyda Neen. Then you know how Eloth replaced those TES3 trees with TES4 trees? Well, see if you can convert those TES4 trees that Eloth put into Morroblivion's Seyda Neen, and then put them into Skywind's Seyda Neen. Then post a before and after screenshots to show the comparison. I'm hoping that it's something close, and judging fromt the pics you showed before, I think it'll turn out good.
This is just me throwing an idea/example out there to see if we want to use converted TES4 trees.
someone test this, please.
can I simply check them out in Nifskope?
very interested as well, if this can make skyblivion atmosphere closer to the original game ; ) ...
I finally succeeded for 100% in porting a TES4 .SPT into a TES5 .NIF File, including the Mesh, UVmap, Textures and long awaited Billboard leaves. It will take a little bit more work to perform but it can be done. All I need to know is; does Skyrim support Billboard leaves ? I know the default trees do not have them.
I need to know; does Skyrim support Billboard leaves, and how to set it up ?
That sounds awesome SB, I wish I knew the answer to your question.
Am I alone because the trees in my skyrim install do not move in the wind at all,only the grass responds to the wind.
Even high in the mountains the trees just look static to me,so they don`t use much animation at all imo,or are they supposed to sway in the wind,?,they don`t for me.?
SB, if u can send me a nif i cna see if it will work in skyrim, and i could try to figure out how to set up bill board nodes.
@Ironman 12345
If your frame rate drops below a certain point tree animations stop.
@Ironman 12345:
Try to add this to your skyrimprefs.ini under [Trees]:
[Trees]
bRenderSkinnedTrees=1
uiMaxSkinnedTreesToRender=40
bForceFullDetail=1
bEnableTreeAnimations=1
bEnableTrees=1
Thanks! Gothryd & Supreme,
Supreme,my system is a self built 4 core AMD running at 4Ghz per core,with graphics memory DDR3 & core running at 850Mhz [core],so no FPS probs.
Gothryd,thanks for the prefs list,I forgot to set those.
Download link to - TES3 & TES4 Converted Trees - WIP Version: 0.1
- - Download link removed - -
WIP files released for others to review and test, feedback is needed to make the conversion better. The converted trees in this package originate all from TES4 - Shivering Isles. This is not a mod; it’s for testing only.
Please report bugs and things that need to change. I use a self made conversion script to convert all the trees at ones into Skyrim .NIF files. There is no need for doing things by hand if it can be done automatically for all 150 trees in one go.
I can rotate, rescale or modify the trees by script, just let me know what needs to be done and I will include the changes.
Still to come in a next version:
- All TES3 Oblivion trees
- All TES4 Oblivion trees
- Tree Billboard leaves
- Tree Collision meshes
( All trees use the same textures, pointing the texture paths to HD textures is required )
Sorry, download link removed, files where not usable in game. I am working on fixing the problem.
Project update:
- I still need to convert the 50% of the Oblivion trees
( This will take a week to complete )
- I need to finish conversion into Skyrim .NIF format
( 3DsMax export plug-in not available )
I am facing two massive issues:
- Getting the billboard leaves to act like billboards
( Cant get the mesh billboards to function in 3DsMax )
- Getting the entire tree to export correctly from 3DsMax
( 100% functional 3DsMax export plug-in not available )
I need some one to converting my tree models into Skyrim .NIF files. Apparently I do not understand the process to produce those files. Send me a PM and I will provide a sample for you play with. When sample returns to me in working order a link will be provided to +150 TES4 trees to be converted.
I am finally making little progress. http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/6240/sicktree.jpg
Here is a picture of the tree from the first post in Skyrim, well at least 50% of the tree is visible.
Finally success!
The tree does suffer from a little bit of conversion sickness, but that can be tweaked out later. If I manage to get billboard leaves to work in the near future then it will be an almost replica.

wow, this is really promising
Looks good SB!
