Version Control CK to megre our work!
I try to find person, who has license version (without any pathes which lock network) of Skyrim and this person must want to work with whole our work.
This person must do http://www.sureai.de/development/tutorials/skyrim-creation-kit-version-control/?lang=en and check how it work!
Sorry, that stuff is way out of my league, I don't understand anything of it.
I can explain)
Well, for the moment I don't have time for it anyway, most work shall have to wait till after my exams I'm afraid.
I have read and understand what the info at the link is saying.
But VC in that context means version control of the Skyrim.exe [proberly] and Skyrim.esm [definately].
So what you would be changing would be the actual Skyrim.esm version and content by adding [merging esp`s to it],and also changing other critical skyim files in the install.
But we are not changing the content of the skyrim master, just the content of oblivion_sk.esm [or later skywind.esm].
Using an extra master is fine, but if we change skyrim.esm in any way it would mess up the normal skyrim game and make steam update it [assuming steam did not take the messed up master as piracy].
Sounds easy to do,but very risky from my seat.?
Not only for skyrim.esm)
So it can be used to change any master without affecting the skyrim.esm master.?
If so,I agree it is cool.
Yeap) it is cool)
It sounds ok,but we would all have to have or create a network drive, and be linked to a server that one of use would have to run [the main link].?
Any changes made,or esps needing merging, would have to uploaded to the main user server to keep only one main master updated.
All possible but who would setup a server and have it online 24/7.?
I run online racing servers from the UK,and it ain`t a low cost job.
If people want then we can do it, but it is not necessary. VC can work on one PC with one user.
But it is really good idea, ive thought about it.
Hmmm ok, this sounds good, but can we work with the master and merge all the esp's we have into that?
What can Version Control NOT do?
- Version Control was developed for teamwork on one Master File and does not allow merging of plugin files (.esp) only. So Version Control is only made for teams of developers who work on one Master File.
EDIT: Nevermind, sounds like it actually can merge esp's into a master file, but like Eloth said, I don't think it'll merge esp's together to form a master. Thankfully, we don't have to worry about that.
as i understand it you can only merge .esp to .esm, and not esp to esp, or have
It is write into master-file, so no problem )
This paragraph was send to me by few people)
Edit: You can take a lot of esp and foist (right verb? xD) it into esm)
I like the fact that it can merge any number of esp`s to the master,as it would cut out the job of merging the esps together.
And I quess the fact that it can be used on any networked PC is great.
Can the VC work on a copy of the Skyrim folder.?That would keep the main steam folder untouched.?
So, we must find a man who start it first, and then we can check how it work)
p.s. i hate capcha...
EDIT: I would be stoned to do it, but I have some problems with CK and Skyrim xD
Can the VC work on a copy of the Skyrim folder.?That would keep the main steam folder untouched.?
When you are load the CK (and you have different ems), VC asked you: "Would you like to copy master file from the server?". So... I dont know)) In tutorial I think must be inf)
I will try it using a copy of my skyrim folder over the weekend [can`t do it right now],and use the Morrowind_sk.esm as master.
There are some esps that I could try to use as a test.
Hope it works.
Why not use the Morrowind_sk.esm as the master? I think that is what everyone is focusing their efforts on.
I think it may be hard to find someone with enough dedication to see this project through, and take up merging the .esp files. We were really lucky that Dave B. came along and started up Morroblivion. I know I could not do that, but hopefully someone here can.
Sorry Shadow I misstyped that,I mean`t to type Morrowind_sk.esm".
Edited my post.
I could do it, but they would not be timely :/
Why don't we just leave up an invitation for a few days, and see if anyone would be willing to take on the merging and masterfile releasing duties? I don't know how we could do an invitation though. Just create a thread and keep bumping it to the top perhaps?
First of all we must check it) If it really work, then we may be can create a "server.ems" ))
Merging the esps into the master,I could do,if VC works, but they would have to be tested ingame before merging.
And also as we use mediafire for most esps, they would have to be below 200MB in size,as some of us do not have paid accounts there.
And the biggest problem,as I see it would be the size of the master, and where to store it online.?
Well, we could always just find another upload service like Google Drive. But, size won't be a problem for the moment at least. Morrowind will never reach above 80 MB. We can tackle the size problem when we start work on Oblivion several months from now.
Edit: I think we are trying to keep the load on the server down. But then again, wasn't one of the mirrors for the TTW patches this server? It is possible we could just do that.
OK,I will test it out over the weekend.Keep your fingers crossed.
And if we really get stuck by size later,I could setup an FTP server on one of my racing servers [but they are down at this time for mantainance].
I believe and hope)
P.S. It is can help too: http://www.creationkit.com/Version_control
We need somebody not only with good internet channel, but especially with good uploading channel. For example, I can run the server, but unfortunately my uploading speed is only 350 kbytes\s...
any torrent mb?
My download speed is 80Mbps and upload 20Mbps,so I could upload very quickly to mediafire,if the test works.
All that needs doing is for one guy to collect all of the finished [and tested] esp`s and then merge them to the master [like I am doing with the test later today],and then upload the updated master to mediafire.
Will report back later.
So far so good,I have setup the network on an external drive and have almost finished getting the VC working, when I have updated the ESM master with an esp [yet to be decided],I will post a new thread with a download link to it and keep that thread and master up to date, and add details of which esps have been added to each update.
Is the above idea ok with you guys.?
Yep, its good idea i think. But always new thread... Hm, i think one new thread with "Skywind Master File Updating" will be ok, or we can use http://morroblivion.com/forums/conversion-to-skyrim/general/2473 .
About .esp we must speak with ramms
I mean`t just one thread used to update the master, you missread my post.
OK it is working now,and I have a VC button.
When we know which esp`s to add, please let me know here, and I will merge them.
But they must be checked ingame first.
:-[ im sorry(
p.s. thank you so much )))
Has classes.esp been checked in the game.?
If so I will merge it later today.
any more esps that need merging,?,to save time.?
Of course we can to check this esp ingame) hp lvl must be changed)
sorrow must have some esp i think.
The reason that all esps must be finished and working in the game with no extra work needed,is because when they are merged with the master the esp should not then be needed.
So it is very important that all merged esp`s are working and final.
It looks like I have taken the job of keeping the master up to date,so the master that I upload must not contain bad data.
I will not have the time to test every esp in the game,so it is very important that they all work properly.
It is impossible, because we can change smth of our ideas in last moment(
And compatibility of esp is hard question.
The point is that before any esp can be merged with the latest master,it must be compatable etc, because the whole idea of merging is to have a reliable up to date master.
It is possible to do it,because Dave did it with morroblivion.
If we just merge everything before checking,it will not work.
I know we change our minds at the last minute, but before I can merge esp`s they must be the FINAL release.
Of course esp must be checked before megre.
Final... What did you mean? For example:
Classes.esp is checked, but it is not final version, because i dont know how it work with future balance. Or i am wrong?)
I understand Iniquity, but that is point, before I merge it,it must work with or be the only only classes balancing mod, because if it is changed after it has been merged it will mess up the master.
That is what I mean`t by FINAL.
A normal esp [finished or not] does not matter, but once merged it cannot be updated.
That was hard to explain.
I think you should create a back up before merging esps.
And have got all our esms versions stored somewhere in several clouds, if any accident appeared.
I am using the latest morrowind_sk.esm at this time, and have that backed up on my system.
And yes,I intend to keep backups before each update, but the reason I was saying that esps be final releases, was to try to cut down on messed up master files.
All backups are on external drives,so are safe if my system goes down.
hmm, i thought we can deleted esp after mergering. And if we have some problems with data from "our" esp, then we can create a new one and rewrite master, arent we?
I understand) but some kind of shit can wait for us in any moment)))
It ain`t that simple unfortunately, because if we make a new master due to one mod [esp] messing it up,we lose all the other already merged esp data.
The new master would only have the last merged esp data.
I quess that`s why Beth takes so long to produce the games.?
I think we must do the next steps:
1. We are mergiring esm only one day a week. (EDIT: or 2 days on a week)
2. After uploading new version everybody check they esp for compability with new ems.
I believe this steps save our soul.
Yep! that sounds cool.
I will start a new "Latest SkyWind Master Update" thread later, and put a link to the latest master there it will be named "morrowind_skV_01",the version will change as we add esps.
I will update the master at weekends.
Ok)) We are waiting for you))
truly awesome! i do have esps but im still a bit confused about the need for esps to be final do they need to be or not?
