I did this once before but i dont remember how. In fact I completely forget how alpha channels work. If I could just get a breif overview on how to do this it'd be appreciated.
I dont know which program you use, but if you are using adobe photohop you can directly work on transperent background, then save as dds. You'll have to download a plugin though. Also you must know in which format of dds you must save. I am not at home so I can't check what was it...
-> Add an Alpha channel to the layer (if one does not already exist).
-> Select and delete the background (the selection method varies from case to case, sometimes you can use the magic\auto select tool while at others you would need to use more cubersome ones like poly or lasso).
-> Export as DDS. You want to use a format that supports an Alpha channel, DXT5 for example.
