Brutal's General Skyrim Thread
Since it seems that all my others posts have been combined I thought i'd rename it.
I am preloading Skyrim on steam. . But does this mean i can view my game files ? Like check whats in the .nifs? If so be prepared for spoilers
Update!. Yes i can open up Skyrim.ncf and skyrim english.ncf. Inside english skyrim I can see voices.bsa. Skyrim.nfc hasnt loaded anything really yet tho
Update again! Skyrim data.nfc contains bsas for meshes, textures, sounds, animations, interface, misc, shaders as well as Skyrim.esm and update.esm
Already now preload is finished but it seems that I am unable to extract the files
update! Actually found all the files in steamapps\common! But how can i open these bsas?
It is time....I have been watching mediocre television for three hours. Now at midnight I prepare. By the time this post is posted Skyrim will be decrypted and i will be there to play it! My plan is almost complete!
Edot: Ugh it said that it was 100 percent done decrypting but the box wouldnt close so i pressed cancel. Now I think it is downloading the game again or something...
Open skyrim bsas with FOMM?
I have been hearing that you can open the Skyrim bsas with Fallout mod manager. Sadly I dont own fallout so I cant use the program ( Yes I tried ) But a lot of people say they can open the bsas but nifscope doesnt reconize the nifs. I also heard that bsa commander can open textures.bsa
edit: now i got it to work
Falmer In skyrim?
We know Horkers exist in Skyrim, but about rieklings/falmer. As far as I can tell Rieklings and falmer are the same thing. I have found the falmer meshes in the bsas so they definitely exist. My guess is they live around Solitude.
Creature list WIP
Dwaren Sphere Centurion
Dwarven Steam Centurion
Manekin (May or may not be an actual creature)
Armor List WIP
Shield Of ysgramor
Sons of Talos armor
yngolshelm (Dont know what this is really)
Dragon priest armor
general tulius armor (Probably just some important persons armor)
Ebony mail (Woo-hoo!)
db armor (Probably dragon-born armor)
thieves guild armor
Skyrim screenshot problem! I was taking some screenshots and apparently now they wont open in anything. weird huh
About Dwarven ruins....
I have only been able to find two dwarven ruins - and thats with all map markers enabled. The first one was an old building with a sphere in a room. I pressed e on it and everything around me rose up and suddenly i was trapped in a cage. I had to tcl out. There was nothing else in there. Then later i found some sort of tower that didnt look dwarven at all and inside were a bunch of dwarven artifacts completely unguarded. I am disapointed
UPDATE! I NOW TAKE BACK WHAT I SAID ABOVE AND I WILL EXPLAIN WHY !
You know those moments in video games that stick out so well that you just dont forget them? At first I saw none of those in Skyrim, but when i entered Black Reach everything changed. Was that a silt striders? Wait, no. Silt striders dont glow blue. That there is a jellyfish mushroom. *Dwarven Centurion sneaks up behind me* Crap crap crap! Hey look that looks like a dwarven house. I am going in! Say whats this? An alchemy lab! Geez thats a lot of ingredients. Hey is that dead body from that guy that wrote that famous book. Damn. He's long dead. Say, I am going go check out those mushrooms outside. Wow! They look like jellyfish! Do I hear Nirnroot? Yes that undoubtably Nirnroot! There it is! Wait, its read. This is Crimson Nirnroot! I wonder whats in that tower over there. It says here "To Skyrim" Hm. Oh my this is an elevator shaft, but where will it surface. Lets find out! *Uses elevator* What is this? I am trapped in a cage somewhere in Skyrim. Hey thats a lever. *Presses lever" I am free, but I want to check out Black reach some more...(TOO BE CONTINUED)
I think one of the programs that can open a .bsa archive is called "BSA Commander" if I'm not mistaken. Just do a search for "BSA" on tesnexus.
I have tried already with another bsa opener and it didnt reconize the skyrim files. I will go try bsa commander though
Update: I get a loading failed error
Pre-loaded games are heavily encrypted to prevent leaks\spoilers ... its quite reasonable to believe that the BSA's are encrypted as well.
Also the BSA file format changes from one game to another. Daggerfall's BSA's were different from Morrowind's BSA's and Morrowind's BSA's were different from Oblivion's BSA's.
For Oblivion, there is a BSA unpacker built into Oblivion Mod Manager (under utilities)
For Morrowind, there is this utility by Timeslip: Download
Skyrim would likely need a new program from the community
Interesting. But lets just say that we can open the bsas magically. Then we extracted some .nifs. Do you think we would need an upgraded nifscope to view them?
So I reserved a copy of the game at gamestop. That probably means I can't preload it, right?
Brutal, keep us updated man!!!!
And you can't preload if you are just reserving a copy at gamestop. You need the steam version to preload.
Hey, thanks for the help fallingforce, but Morroblivion dosn't support 'cracks' or illegal methods of getting elder scroll games. So please remove your link.
The Elderscrolls are just too well made to be stolen. They deserve our support!
Brutal: I suspected as much. Bummer. ;p
EDIT: Looking at the link I think I may have misunderstood you. If the crack just lets you play early what you've already bought, that's different than just getting the game for free. If that's the case, excuse my impertanence.
I personally dont like giving my phone number to weird surveys like that.. i dont thrust them.. did you try it?? maybe semone can convince me that giving my phone number to weird survey is not bad??
anyway, i have another concern, i have 100s of games on steam and i dont want get my account some problems. do you think this thing can attract problems? also can you activate it on steam after the game release??
BTW again morroblivion modders i admire you :D I am a musician and i know what is commiting on a project you love and its one of the best thing in the world
@brutal: I've been told that Nifscope can't open Skyrim's NIFs currently.
Please don't fill any surverys that ask for personal information ... and be careful when follwing links by people on forums ... this one in particular seems to be spam\advertising.
No daedra except for the atroanchs? Don't tell me that Bethesda just tore out the last thing that made their gaming universe 'original\unique'
.... oh well at least the dwemer centurions made it ...
Having trouble with the screenshots? For some reason I have a screenshot issue in Oblivion; only a few programs open them, and those that do handle them poorly. Appears to be a messed up header. Would be interested in seeing one of the "corrupt" Skyrim screenshot files so I can compare them.
Dwarven creatures in Skyrim? Has Bethesda actually put Dwemer ruins in Skyrim? Anyway, good to see that the majority of the Bloodmoon creatures made a comeback with the slaughterfish and mudcrabs...
I wouldnt necessarily call them ruins. I have only come across to dwarven buildings and they were not realy ruins. There might be real ruins but nothing like what is in morrowind
I have also noticed that in Skyrim the trees don`t move in the wind but grass does.
And most trees are morrowind leafless trees,it seems weird with moving grass and static trees imo.
I think that it would be great if it was in the oblivion graphics engine along with morrowind,as I prefer the oblivion user interface.
I didn't notice the non-swaying trees, but I have noticed a number of 'shortcuts' such as not getting fire damage when standing on a fire, dragon skeletons not having collision, grabbing being stronger but not being able to rotate (which seems to make it worse), etc. I guess they figured other things were higher priority?
I have unpacked all of the bsa`s and there are wierd audio vioce formats like .fuz but all of the .lod files are there,am trying to get a .nif viewer and editor sorted at this time.
Do not know wether to explain how to unpack them in here or not...I like my freedom! and don`t want to upset Beth.
I was able to unpack some of the bsa's without problem using the standard bsa unpacker that comes with OBMM. I can't edit/ view nifs, but the sounds in the sounds bsa I can listen to.
Ya, the music is in a wierd format, I wonder why that is.
To unpack them all use the FOMM the one that you can use for both FO3 and Vegas.
I can confirm that there are dremora in Skyrim. In part of the Azura's Shrine quest, I had to kill several dremora churl.
About suspension of disbelief, try looking at this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rt5aUdijAN8
Problems related to the management of the artificial intelligence, become more relevant as the player is given the opportunity to perform complex interactions with the environment ! This is funny, anyway.
Lolwut! That is amazing
How is the music in Skyrim? Is it more like morrowinds or Oblivion's or a mixture of both?
Basically the music is a mixture of both, and the intro and credits background music is a cool nord overlaid morrowind tune.
Apparently if you noclip out of Skyrim you can find the landamass of solstheim, morrowind, vvardenfall, cytodil and many other undisovered places. I will be testing this right now!
Is no-clip "tcl"? ,as a no-clip command does not work in the console.?
About the music, I know there is at least one Morrowind track when you explore, so I thought that was pretty cool.
Let us know how that goes. I can't try it myself since I only have it for console, but I've heard that the landmasses are not exactly the same as they appeared in Morrrowind and Oblivion. So the question is, how close is the Morrowind and Cyrodiil landmass compared to the originals?
Any idea what I put into the console for noclip Brutal.?Is it the same as tcl.
You can load the skyrim .nif files into nifscope with this:
Second file down.
ya, its tcl like in oblivion.
Also, I found a way to convert music from .xwm to .wav here: http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/456412-xwm-audio-format/page__st__10
Hey Ironman, that list gets updated, so now unenchanted thalmar robes is second down. Could you give a direct link to the mod? Many thanks!
Is this the mod? http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1531
Yep! that`s it.
Cool! about the music, wav is better imo,any way to deal with the .fuz files in there though.?
I think the voice overs are .fuz files.
Thanks Ironman! I can now open most nif files, though I'm having trouble getting their textures to show up, right now anyhow. Any ideas on how to get the textures to work in nifskope?
If you go to the next page in the article, he came up with another bat file / tutorial that turns the voice files from fuz to xwm, then you can convert those to wav.
Step by step I'm getting set up to mod
WOW! Thanks Iceburg, but all of this is only good for getting skyrim into the oblivion engine.?
If we decide to go the other way we might have to convert the oblivion and morro sounds to the skyrim formats, but either way,imo the tools to do it are there now.
I think that you have to make sure that the path to each texture is correct in nifscope or something like that.
I forgot to mentiion that you just cant tcl out of Skyrim. You need to disable borders in your skyrim.ini. I dont know what to add in it. I just downloaded someone elses ini which did the trick. Oh and it seems like the landmass outside of skyrim has NO COLLISION! So you need tcl and the disabled borders.
No problem Ironman, I found a bat either there or somewhere else that reverses the process.
I'm having trouble with the nifskope showing skyrim models with textures. They show up without them. " make sure that the path to each texture is correct in nifscope" Ironman, that's what I was thinking. The paths seem to be correct, and I've had that sort of problem in oblivion and fixed it, but going to render -> add folder and adding the skyrim folder does nothing. Is anyone having success here?
I have not used nifscope for a while, but I dont think you can just add a texture to a mesh, because the mesh needs to have a basic skin type first [a surface for the texture].
So is there a section to bring in a skin before the texture.?Not sure wether you have to add a basic skin or import one from somewhere.?
Hmm. I don't know. I open the files in nifskope and I can find the texture path and it all looks groovy.
The problem is that the texture itself doesn't show up on the nif model's skin. I've changed the file path, like I had to do when I moved oblivion to a games folder so that morroblivion worked, but that made no difference.
Anyone have any ideas?
Will mess with it and get back to you in a few days, there has got to be a way.
Am busy trying to get morrowind_ob.esm to be dependent on skyrim.esm so we might be able to move the whole thing over when we get a CK.It should work as they both use the TES4 format.
I have got all of the sound files converted to .wav now so that`s another thing in the bag.
Will the silent lipsync mod for oblivion work with skyrim.?
At this point I read that nifskope just can't do textures, lol. So that explains it.
That would be cool if the mod hopped on over.
Ya, I converted all the voice files to mp3. Now I'm trying to go back and delete the wav files to conserve some space.
Good question. I just have so many questions pertaining to skyrim. I can't wait for it to come out!
Fixed nif viewer with textures. Thank you abadman!
If you've ever played tf2 then you know it has distinct cartoony graphics. Now someone has found a way to make Skyrim look like that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yeyzi8e6-yw&feature=player_embedded#!
