I just bought a new computer and installed windows 7 64 bit. I installed steam and immediently downloaded Oblivion Game of the Year Digital Delux edition. I installed all my favorite mods (including FCOM) and everything worked very well. After that I decided to install Morroblivion. Every time I start up the game it crashes immediently after the Besthesda logo, before I can load or start a new game. When I turn off Morrowind_ob.esm Oblivion loads, but when I turn back on, the game will always crash. Is this a problem that others are having? I have installed Morroblivion on my previous compter, and I followed the instructions, so I do not think that is the problem. The only thing that I can think of is that since I updated to windows 7 (I had XP before) maybe since I did not change where steam installs my games (C\Program Files (86)\steam\steamapps\common\oblivion) there might be a problem with that. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Thank you.

(C\Program Files

(C\Program Files (86)\steam\steamapps\common\oblivion)

there's your problem

reinstall somewhere outside of c:\program files\

and also make sure you have morrowind_ob.esm loading immediately after oblivion.esm.

How do you get steam to

How do you get steam to install a game somewhere other than in program files where it usually does? Also Could it be possible for me to just move the folder (I spent over two days downloading and installing tons of mods and if at all possible I would like to not have to repeat the experience.) Thank you.

Move Steam Location

You can move your Steam installation without reinstalling Steam: How to move Steam installation and games.

I moved my steam folder.

I moved my steam folder. Oblivion is now installed in C\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Oblivion. However, even with this being done when Morrowind_ob.esm is activated my game will freeze after the Bethesda loading screene. Every single time it starts to load anything it freezes. If I deactivate Morrowind_ob.esm it will play correctly. I have run BOSS and my load order is good, Morrowind_ob.esm loads immediently after Oblivion.esm and all that. I have no idea what the problem is.

Too Many Mods

There are basically only two things that will cause Oblivion to crash before getting to the main menu.
1. You are missing a Master file.
2. You have too many mods. There is a limit of 255 mods in Oblivion. I ran into this myself.

Load Order will NOT cause this type of crash, UNLESS a stray mod tries to load before it's Master.

My guess, since you have FCOM, etc., installed, is that you have too many mods.

I believe mods that are in your data folder but NOT active STILL count toward the 255 limit.

Master Files and Patches also count as mods. If you have UL, all the patches make it easy to go over.

I got it to work. I did two

I got it to work. I did two things at the same time and I do not know what one (or both) solved the problem, but I will list them both just in case anyone might be able to benefit from my experiences. First I was hoping simply changing the location of my steam folder would do the trick, but it did not, so after that I asked for more help. One thing I noticed is that after moving the steam folder, whenever I tried to load up morroblivion I only activated morrowind_ob.esm, and not the world transport file. That might have been the problem, so I activated that. Also, I rebuilt my bashed patch with the files from morroblivion included. After doing both of those things my game would load and I could play Morroblivion!!

This is happening to me

This is happening to me too... I've done all of this.. When I start up The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion it opens up something and I press "Play" Then a window opens up and it's black. Then it says:

Oblivion has stopped working.

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.

Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. Button: Close Program

I'm getting really mad..

Not sure if this will work

Not sure if this will work for you, but had a similar problem as you stated, and the Oblivion Crash Prevention System for OBSE mod seemed to work wonders for this problem, might want to give it a try.

I had several problems when I

I had several problems when I first started with morroblivion .. some I fixed, some I just deleted, but in every situation one or more mods were causing problems. One of the things I did to get morroblivion working initially was to load it with no other mods active.  It worked fine, so I activated my mods one at a time until it started crashing.

Oddly enough, the most recent mod I activated was causing the problem.  My solution was to either load the mod into the CS and fix it, or if I didn't really want (or need) the mod I just deleted it. After doing this several times to be sure I fixed everything I now have a morroblivion install that works fine.

Point is .. morroblivion itself is stable.  Mods may or may not be stable.  Everyone who thinks he's a 'modder' is not a modder.  There are many good modders, but there are also a bunch that try to do things that are not compatible with the Oblivion engine. Mods sometimes conflict with morroblivion, conflict with each other, or are just badly written and conflict with everything. I stay away from these mods.

I think the problems caused by these mods/modders are a direct result of using the OBSE program to script everything with no regard for the game engine limitations.

Scripting in a mod should be kept to a minimum to allow the game engine to do its' job.  It works a lot better.
