Children in Skywind

Hey Guys,

I know the topic of children in the game has come up in the past and generally been turned down on account of the models needed not being there and the ones available being terrible in the past.

However I've been helping Hallgarth with the Skyrim Child Overhaul mod recently which adds mer children as well as orc children, and I thought of you.

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/62676/

we're working on a version with a lot of fixes currently (so that it doesnt interfere with hearthfires or the unofficial patches anymore).

I know Hallgarth put out a call looking for any help from people, specifically he'd been looking for voice actors as we need an orc child voice, and a mer child voice would be nice too.

He's freely said he's not really a texture artist, but the ones he has are better quality than vanilla skyrim, the models he made fit in very nicely with the base game and dont look out of place, so perhaps this might be the mod you've been waiting for before seriously considering adding children to skywind - especially as the models have proper morphs, look like actual children (unlike most other mods to date), and add variety to the various human subraces as well as orcs, bosmer, altmer and of course dunmer.

If any of you have questions, suggestions or want to help, perhaps on the understanding that the resources could be shared, do let me know.

Thanks

i think children have low priority and can be added as separate mod
or we will be drowned by ultraconservative party

yeah you should actually see

yeah you should actually see i was involved in one or both of those talks previously.

For now I'm mostly just posting to make you all aware of a mod that actually adds children that look like children of the various races (no beast races), and seeing if anyone over this neck of the woods feels like potentially lending a hand in terms of better textures or voice acting.

I wouldn't exactly say they

I wouldn't exactly say they look like children of the various races.  They're recolored human kids with some added ears.  I honestly just can't envision elf and orc kids looking like that at all.

what would you suggest should

what would you suggest should be different? useful feedback is always appreciated (even if im not the one making the models anyway)

currently they use the child mesh as a base, but Hallgarth has made morphs for them to change the shapes, mer children have thinner pointier faces than human children, whilst still maintaining the slightly chubbier appearance you'd expect from a child.

the orc children look a lot like human children but again have slightly pointed ears and have the orcish looking teeth and are also of somewhat larger stature.

I suspect the main thing missing is actually on the texture side as the ridges on the foreheads has become something of an identifier for the mer of skyrim.

If those are the morphs in

If those are the morphs in the screencaps, I'm just not seeing it.  Textures would help, sure, but I think it's going to take more than that.  Despite any small changes made, they still have have that generic human face that every Skyrim kid has, and with the adult clothes and hair styles on them they all look like human kids in Halloween costumes rather than the children of non-humans.  I don't think there's any way to really do it properly without making new heads from scratch.

yeah, but what exactly are

yeah, but what exactly are the features you feel make them look human and not like their parent race?

it's all well and good to say they dont look like x, but without explaining why you think they dont look like x, it doesnt help improve things.

this picture is decent (except the dunmer child was given a very blue face for some reason), to me it seems if you were to make the cheeks a little more gaunt on the elves, add eyebrow ridges, and maybe use mer eyebrows instead of the more rounded human ones, they'd look pretty close.

I think that could be good

I think that could be good mod to use. Later. As separate one. If you ll make dunmers grey, not blue.

The noses, the cheeks, the

The noses, the cheeks, the eyes, the entire facial structure is virtually unchanged.  Morphs may have been added, but they're barely noticeable, and where they are noticeable, they only vaguely resemble the features of the parent race.  They all the have nearly the exact face they all had before, only now each type of human child has a slightly more pronounced skin color, and some have been given new skin colors with some ears attached.
Even with the morphs they all look just like the human model they're built off of, only with ever so slight face variations.  With the adult clothes, hairstyles, and then the face paint on the orc, they look like human kids trick-or-treating.
That's the best way I know to explain it.

Remember that adding children

Remember that adding children is more work than just "including a mod". They would need to be properly voice acted and referenced by NPC's, or else they wouldn't really be a part of the world. It would be even weirder to have children that are all mutes, and nobody talks about them, than to have none in the first place. And good underage voice actors are hard as hell to find, just as grown up actors who can pull off a good impression. That's why all children in Skyrim had the same voice.

As far as their designs go, I'd wait and see if Ehamloptrian comes back (or some other magician takes his place) to make the races overhaul happen - because that's when the children design could be discussed and nailed down.

Yes if, and if children will

Yes if, and if children will have a debut it should be a add-on constructed post release and optional. Major design and overall ideas should be really thought upon unlike children of Skyrim or not added at all. Also children should have more roles in the game, like providing tips, overhearing or eavesdropping and other things kids were used for, and yes like it or not due to slavery being big in this time period, kids likewise should be enslaved. Killing kids should result in immediate hatred of you by other NPC's sort of similar to how people react to you being a vampire.

It would be great to have

It would be great to have children. It adds more realism to the skywind. I hope that they would consider to add children in Skywind, espicially ones of different race to nords. The more diversity, the better
