Description

I have a question: one of the major things that gave Morrowind it's stunning look and atmosphere for me back in the days I first launched it was Jeremy Soule's game soundtrack. Oblivion's OST was not that good to me honestly. Is it possible to import it to the game?

I know that I simply can replace the sound files but is it possible possible for the game to play original Morrowind soundtrack while being on Morrowind island and swap back to Oblivion's OST when you get back to Oblivion locations?

Here is a list of the tracks: http://uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Music

Here is how music works in Oblivion:

Oblivion and Morrowind use the same MP3 music playback system, both based on "mood" folders for different music styles. The only difference between them is that Morrowind has two "moods" (Battle and Explore), while Oblivion has four for greater variety (Battle, Explore, Dungeon and Public).

In mood folders, you can have as many MP3's as you like, and it doesn't matter what their filenames are. The game simply lists all MP3's in the folder and chooses one at random.

The final folder, Special, contains three MP3's: 1. death.mp3 which plays when you're killed, 2. success.mp3 which plays when the level-up dialog appears, and 3. tes4title.mp3 which is the Theme Music that plays repeatedly on the Main Menu. These are the ONLY MP3's the game will recognise in the Special folder.

It's really very simple to replace Oblivion's music...

1. Create a backup of the original Oblivion\Data\Music folder structure, so you can restore it later if required.
2. If you don't want to hear Oblivion's original music, delete the existing MP3's.
3. Copy your own MP3's into the appropriate folders, which are:-

Battle (mood music while NPC/Creature is attacking you)
Dungeon (mood music for caves/forts/ruins)
Explore (mood music for wilderness)
Public (mood music for cities/towns)

Special (specific named MP3's)
> death.mp3 (when player dies)
> success.mp3 (when level-up dialog appears)
> tes4title.mp3 (title theme for Main Menu)

Note: In the Special folder, make sure the MP3's are correctly named so that Oblivion finds them, otherwise there's NO playback (silence). If you DO want silence, though, all you need to do is rename, move or delete the appropriate MP3 so that Oblivion can't find it.

Therefore, in order to make music play in Morrowind and switch back to Oblivion when you traveled, someone would have to write a script that detected what worldspace you were in (similar to the world transport mod) and then renamed the files in these folders accordingly.  OBSE would probably have to be used for this.

For example, let's say you've got these in your music folder:

oblivion_dungeon_music.mp3
morrowind_dungeon_music.mp3

The script would detect you are in morrowind, and disable the oblivion file by renaming it so that the game would only detect and play the morrowind version:

oblivion_dungeon_music.disabled
morrowind_dungeon_music.mp3

Then when you went back to oblivion, both files would be renamed to flip-flop them:

oblivion_dungeon_music.mp3
morrowind_dungeon_music.disabled

Obviously this would have to happen for all of the files in all of the music folders.

Any body who can point me to  a mod that plays the morrowind music the way thermador suggests? I need a dedicated morrowind music mod for Morroblivion, half the thrill is the morrowind music to me

Eloth sent me a complete replacer for Morrowind music. I think I would need to put together some directions, which may take me a while to get around to, but I will ask him if it's OK, then upload that as an additional download option.

Allow me to rephrase that: for Morroblivion... adding a working "morrowind" folder which one could say... put the morrowind music into, which will play when in Vvardenfell.

I'm probably going to continue working on it, adding morrowind dungeon and public music too (in their proper locations) for my morroblivion pleasure.
