I have had this bug too. There are two Gaenors in Mournhold, one with rags and one with his Ebony battlesuit.

In my case it started out with only one but when I activated his vengeance quest and he said he'd run away he just chilled while the Ebony clad one started pummeling me. Last time I checked he was still next to the temple a couple of feet away from his corpse.

Fixed scripts on both versoins of Gaenor, so they apper/disapper correctly
