Any restrictions on using 3D coat for 3D modeling?

Submitted by Johngvc on

Hi!

I wanted to ask if there is any problem on using 3D coat for the 3D modeling pipeline. Zbrush is really expensive and many people said that 3D coat is quite capable of a similar level of quality work that of Zbrush after the proper retopo phase for LP and HP model creation and further texturing (I would never use voxelized models for in game models in case someone is wondering. That's one of the main reasons people don't rely on 3d Coat so much for sculpting). 3d Coat is also the only product in the market that can paint on Specular, displacement (or normal) and color maps at the same time, so maybe this can prove useful for some people.

I started modeling because of this project you guys have my thanks,

If you solely use 3D coat you won't be able to get as much help from other volunteers, but in regards to sculpting I don't think it would be a big issue as such. The main exporting goes through 3DS, Maya or Blender, so as long as you have one of those as well for the LP.

Alright no problem Mace,

That's good to hear because I am also familiar with blender (3d coat has real time integration with it) Thanks for the info. I still didn't volunteer because I think I'm not good enough for the Project, later on I'll surely volunteer.
