WOOD BAR COUNTER [Claimed by StormAndy]

Submitted by grumpycat on

All the models in this thread need to be redone for legal and esthetic purposes before we will do a release . If you feel like you can contribute by doing some or all of these models then please leave a comment at the bottom of this thread.

Let us know what 3d modeling program and also what year it is you use, as we need to find out if we need to convert the files for you or get you setup with appropriate importers.

Hey,

I'm free to take on modelling this, I'm using 3dsmax 2014.

Cheers,

Andy

Just a quick update on progress with the bar counter.

Currently looking into doing these.

Being guided by ErikChristensen, will post more news when I can.

Currently did this.

Didn't "fancy" it just yet, mostly tried to just "demo" the details of the legs and front wall.

Any opinions? The wall could use some more detail to make the polis less noticable. Same with the legs too.

Currently sitting at 656 tris.

Legs could probably be made a bit thinner, and could use a slight bevel down the edge of the posts to give them a bit more of a carved look, but its looking great for a early progress picture!

Tried to add the "bevel" Erik was talking about.

Also came up with the idea to make round legs. I'll leave this here and see if people like this one better or if I should just stick with the original idea.

What's next in line?

Hmm, I'm having a doubt here.
How many tables will have to be done?
By my accounts:
1 - One that only has 2 sides rendered;
2 - Another that has 3 sides rendered, in case it's the first or last table to be set down;
3 - A round one for the curves. Only the round side will be rendered;
4 - The trap door thingy.

So, am I correct here or am I missing something?

Ok, after some testing, thinking and preparing, I decided to do this "whole" table, not only to use it as a "Skeleton" to model the other tables from, but to showcase how the whole set's style will be like.

I'm going to leave it like this for today and I'll pick up tomorrow in the morning, if I don't see any complaints until then I'll keep the style like this and start modeling the other tables. The wall will probably use a bit more tinkering, but the tables as a whole will look like this.

P.S.: This is the low-poly version.

I think it would look better if the legs were a bit thinner. Also, you could probably bevel the edges of the table top, since it looks kind of sharp as is. Since this is an interior asset, you have more freedom when it comes to polycount, so keep that in mind.

Also, the different table models are part of a tileset that you would link together to make the entire counter. The easiest way to see how they work would be to open the Construction Set and snap a few pieces together.

Ok, added the Bevel effect on the top, thinned the legs and added some more detail to the wall.

Currently sitting at 2712 tris for the whole thing. I know I could extend the tris because it's an interior piece, but I didn't know how much, so...
Anyway, any more comments? If I get the "go", I'll start working on the other items, using this one as the main example.

Also, about the items tiling, would it be ok if I did that after finishing all the items? From the looks, that'll just be a matter of resizing them at the end to fit Skyrim's engine metrics, right?

Anyway, I'll wait for comments before going ahead, I'd like the main style approved before doing something people don't like.

Edit: I don't know if anyone can do it, but would it be ok to alter the name of the topic? It says it's claimed by "StormAndy", but since I'm the one working on it...

A few days without updates, here's what's been happening:

1 - Ravanna decided to join in on the work and started to supervise me, trying to guide me so I don't have to wait for other people to "approve" my work;
2 - He suggested that I started learning zBrush, and this is the most time-consuming thing that has been happening. He's been giving me zBrush work related to this "set", but due to me having and exam tomorrow and him having other stuff, our time has been occupied lately and progress hasn't been as quick as it could.

That said, me learning zBrush seems like a major investment from Ravanna's side, considering that with this knowledge it'll be easier for me to achieve Skyrim's graphical qualities(once I've learned how to work well with zBrush...)
Progress is at a slow nowadays, but I believe it will be worth it in the end.

So yeah, I just thought it would be a good idea to update you people on why I haven't talked much these last few days.

Oh, a whole month without updates...

Anyway, the good news is, this is "basically" finished.
Me and Ravanna handled the HP, the LP, the textures and all that. All that is missing is Ravanna doing somethings here and there and this bar set will be completed. How long that will take depends on Ravanna's schedule, since he has bigger preoccupations regarding Skywind than making somecrappy tables.

Now I'm moving on to the market stalls.
It has been a nice ride so far!
