Tapestries

I know we have rug topic, but I want to avoid mess. So I created new one but they are somehow connected.

So....

1. Redone common base for many? They look good enough.

2. . Ashlanders

Hanged rugs.

3. Nords.

Just furs... like in rug situation

4. Imperials. Probably cleaned tapestries from public domain. This one should also go through lore inquisition (Smite?)

5.Hlaalu (design done)

Just derivative from rugs.

6. Redoran (design done)

Just derivative from rugs.

7. Telvanni (they don't have)

They are excluded due to architectural problems. And in MW Telvanni didn't like them for some reason. Even lack of sth can be some diversity.

8. 6th house

They have only banners (done)

9. Indoril

Partly derivative from rugs but with saints depictions.

9. Mournhold Palace

(done by accident in rug topic)

10. Dwemers

Dunno? Is any need? Quite open topic.

I could say they are done.

---------------

One question how do they will be done? With Specular and Normal? Or just Diffuse and Alpha?

the ashlander tribes had

the ashlander tribes had tapestry designs specific to each tribe in vanilla, idk if they've been posted here yet

zainab  urshilaku  ahemmusa  erabenimsun

I saw some HD interpretations of them on tumblr as well:  1  2  3  4

the previous discussion Ive seen in regards to ashland rug designs seems VERY appropriative of designs from various native american nations, completely decontextualizing them and reducing them to nothing more than what is considered a "tribal look" which is, uh, kind of a very very bad thing to do. Just throwing that out there. Its really shitty. Those designs could be considered important to a lot of people and arent really free to use for a fictional tribal people in a video game

anyway

for dwemer, yeah I think banners wouldn't really have lasted. But I could experiment with the look in one of the concepts Im working on rn. Maybe for ruins that are being explored by the imperial archeologial society there could be some imperial tapestries hung up outside, who knows

also I really dig the common base tapestry textures!

In this example it is case of banners not hanged rugs. But it could be trail to which colors should be used as primary. Some parts of patterns could be used too.

It doesn't mean they should look the same but overall direction.

For me most important thing is just to keep consistent each style and all together. And use some cliche to get tribal connotations. Btw. further discussion about ashlanders should be take place in rug topic. And final decisions are not done in this topic. So many things could be changed. I'm not angry about this comment or anything. I just want to keep topic clear.

The main problem is that dwemers interiors weren't very comfy inside, so I think only examples can exist in very deteriorated condition. Besides "imperial archeologial society" they also can be some preserved examples in dwemer museum. Yeah it will be nice to see what you have done.

Whenever it comes to fabrics

Whenever it comes to fabrics and imperials, I like to bring up Lady Nerevar's work 'On Silk'.

Bear in mind that the silk from Ancestor Moths is invariably red in shade, but is also very rare and uncommon. As a backwater of the empire, Vvardenfell is unlikely to have any of the intricate souled genealogical tapestries. But an un-souled red silk 'imperial dragon' would probably be woven into some of the more important banners in Ebonheart. In the main hall of the Duke, the banquet hall, or whatever. Otherwise, for imperials you're probably looking at images of the constellations.

The same would hold true for any Dwemer tapestries. They had their own versions of the constellations, which we saw in Redguard.

Ok this one is set for

Ok this one is set for Indoril (temple). Rich for Vivec and Ghostgate. Poor for the rest.

"Story" depictions should remain in fresco. I don't know why, but for some reason they don't fit me here. Is any sense to do more (saint depictions?)

Maybe to keep it more consistent with rugs and dwemer murals, just do them more "blocky" like in this example below

quite good idea.

I think all redone examples from MW fit very well to Sky. I think nobody will be harmed if there would be some additional tapestries from public domain. Especially when it's free and it don't need too much work.

Looking great, only

Looking great, only suggestion I'd have would be making the inner parts of the rich tapestries "cleaner", so only one kind of yellow and outlines in the motifs on them.

It would make it easier to identify what is depicted and set them apart in style more.

Making the dwemer things more blocky should be a good idea. Also, I'm starting to doubt if they really need tapestries at all. Maybe since they liked their murals and stuff so much it would fit them better if they wouldn't have them? Not sure, though.

Yeah, I'd be cool if Dwemer

Yeah, I'd be cool if Dwemer lacked tapestries in favor of wall-etchings or scrawlings on vellum.

I've done  clean version before and it looked a bit crapy. Yeah it's much easier to recognize but I dunno if is it so much important. It is also nice to see link to poor version.

Ok now I understood, Just add lower contrast.
