Corrupted Save Game

Submitted by KNICK on

Hi all,

first, I wanted to say that this mod is an absolute thing of beauty, I've been enjoying my time in Morroblivion quite a bit.

Sadly, I seem to have encountered a corrupted save bug. Already did some searching on the forums and apparently it's not unheard of in both Morroblivion and vanilla Oblivion. Of course I have no other saves anywhere near where I last was, so I'm a bit desperate to get my quicksave and autosave working again.

Whenever I try to load either of them up, I get presented with either an immediate CTD or a full loading bar, two seconds of black screen with sound and then a CTD.

I already tried replacing the saves with the previous ones (through renaming the .baks), which gives me the same crashes.

I'll link both saves after this paragraph, maybe a kind soul could take a look and give me some advice or just outright tell me whether or not this is in any way salvagable.

My load order:

Load Order

Oblivion.esm

Morrowind_ob.esm

Morrowind_ob.esp

MorroblivionWater.esp

DLCShiveringIsles.esp

Knights.esp

Unofficial Oblivion Patch.esp

ProtocolledDialogs.esp

UOPS Additional Changes.esp

Morroblivion_Chargen_And_Transport_Mod_v10.esp

Morroblivion_ob - MorroblivionTreeReplacer.esp

Morroblivion_ob - Conversation.esp

Morroblivion_ob - UCWUS.esp

Ak-Morroblivion Maps HD.esp

Bashed Patch, 0.esp

I know this is kind of a mess, mostly due to me never having modded Oblivion before, but it's worked for 18 hours of playtime, up until a few minutes ago when I suddenly couldn't load my saves anymore.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I tested the autosave and the game crash for me too. The only thing that I can suggest to you is to load the game only with Oblivion.esm activated(to be sure that the cause is actually a corrupted save and not a corrupted spawn points  even if the exception code don't match).

If start you can try to load Morrowind_ob.esm and Morrowind_ob.esp

Otherwise the only thingh you can do is start a new game.

Do you have some obse plugin installed?

Also I strongly suggest to not use Autosave and quicksave that are know to cause this genre of issues(even if I never had a trouble with these two). Save always from the menu or still better from console "save namefile" command.

Thanks for taking the time and testing. :)

I tried to load the save with nothing but Oblivion.esm activated, same result, crash to desktop.

The only OBSE Plugin I have installed (to my knowledge) is MenuQue v10 beta5, which is needed for the Protocolled Dialogs mod.

I now know that using autosave and quicksave is begging for trouble, wish I'd known that a week ago when I started playing.

I also uninstalled and reinstalled all mods (using Wrye Bash), that didn't help either.

ehm kyoma released v16b some month ago.

New game is the way I'm sorry.

Did you had many CTD during gameplay before of corruption?

I know it's an outdated version, but for some reason it was the only one that worked with the mod. I tried the newest one, but the protocols wouldn't show up.

There were hardly any CTD, maybe two or three total. The only thing that happened more frequently was a "Oblivion.exe has stopped working" message upon quitting the game.

Know bug:

I don't know about last version but v14 work for me very well. Edit: i tested and even the last version worked for me

Also do you use obse v21?

The crash on exit is a know bug.

SO I definitly think that you encountered the Autosave/quicksave corruption bug.

Yes, I used OBSE 21.

Tried some more renaming and moving the .baks, no good.

I had a manual save that was almost at the beginning of the game which I could load without any problems. Did a complete uninstall and reinstall of not only Morroblivion but also both base games, I fear the saves are beyond repair. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted, I'll be back for Skywind.

You can simply try to play without using autosave/quicksave. Also don't save in combat(there is a very little chance that this will ruin the save)

Keep always backup.

Also I suggest update menuque(I tested the last version and it worked well with Protocolled dialogue). And give a look to FastExit2 and Oblivion stutter remover.Oh and Elys Universal Silent Voice.

And install the unofficials patches.

Skywind still is not ever an alpha. It will take much time to complete.

Morrowind_ob.esp should be loaded last.

Actually it should be loaded before

Morroblivion_Chargen_And_Transport_Mod_v10.esp and Morrowind_ob_Conversation.esp

becouse it override some record that are modded by these two mod. The load order really doesn't matter otherwise(the file is provided only to make the game load the bsa).

Before you saved, did you use any UCWUS enchantments? I do recall that previously, using UCWUS enchantments always guaranteed a corrupted save.

Not always, but in rare cases, which I wasn't able to reproduce. But more importantly it was always fixed by disabling the esp.

The bug affect the version prior to Beta5 of UCWUS. Becouse he already tested with every mod disabled this is not the trouble

Yeah, I tried to load it with only Oblivion.esm and then Oblivion.esm and Morrowind_ob.esm, no dice. Anyway, I got rid of the broken saves and started a new game, this time using manual saves. Yeah, I might have to redo 16 hours worth of quests, but whatever, it's a great game.

Thanks again to everyone who took the time to look at this topic! I'm off exploring Vvardenfell some more. :-)

Did you start your Orig Game with all the Mods you Use Activated or have you been putting them in as You Go.

Starting a New Game might not Solve the Problem you Could Get to 60 Hours and have the Problem Again, you can Turn the OFF( autosave ) in your Oblivion Options.

CTD  can Be Caused by Other mods it is Not Always Caused by Oblivion there has Not Been a Report on CTD for awhile  so what Caused it to Happen.

Also when  you Start a New Game Delete (( User\User Name\ Documents (My Documents)\My Games\Oblivion\Oblivion.ini )) to Make shore you do not Have a Corrupt .ini File

Oh, when I used to play Oblivion, the Fast Exit OBSE Plugin was an absolute must for me:

Have you tried this? Solves the crash-on-exit issue like a charm.
