Crash to Desktop in dust/ash storms?

Submitted by igotsmeakabob11 on

I had this issue originally with being in the swamps, but I installed a couple FPS fixing mods and that seemed to resolve that issue- until I hit a dust storm and the game will crash after a minute or so.

I have a solid, modern gaming PC (gtx 970 GPU, quad 3.4 processor, 8gb ram) so it shouldn't be a hardware issue?

I was enjoying Morroblivion up 'til now, unfortunately I'm at a standstill and can't progress because of the crashes!

Thanks!

I'm not much of a trouble shooter, but since no one has commented, I'll give it a shot.

You stated you're able to stay in a dust or ash storm for about a min and that you've installed various mods to increase your FPS. Maybe it has to do with you reaching your memory limit. Oblivion only uses 2gb of ram vanilla. With a patch, that could be increased to 4gb.

That link allows you to download stated patch, if you've not done so already. Even if you have, your installation might still be reaching that limit, despite your specs. It depends on what mods you're using, your tweaks, perhaps even your load order. Oblivion is fairly buggy vanilla. Just in case you haven't yet, I suggest downloading http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/45266/? according to its instructions and http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/23208/?

Don't forget to read a few pages of the comments for each mod. Ah, also, don't forget to attach your load order. Maybe someone who actually knows a thing or 2 about finding someone's game issues will comment if they see your load order.
