Door Probes Not Equipping

Submitted by Scoopdoop on

I have been playing Morroblivion for a few days now, and so far the only bug I've had was a Cliff racer coming through the roof of Arkngthand. However there's another issue that has been bugging me, and that is, that I am unable to equip probes, so I haven't been able to disarm any traps.  Any help on this subject would be appreciated.

Hi! I haven't done much play-testing with the probes yet other than pretty much what you've experienced.  From what I understand from skimming through the scripts in the Construction Set, the probes are supposed to work automatically when they are in your inventory and your Security Skill is high enough to use them (similar to how lock picks are automatically used when in your inventory).  ** If anyone has more knowledge, please correct me. **

When opening a container/door that is trapped a text box should pop-up saying "This door is trapped, but can be disarmed with a probe" (or something like that) then it will give you 3 options: Try to disarm it, Ignore and activate the trap, Leave and walk away. Your ability to disarm the trap is tied to your security as well as the quality of your probe. It's all automatic but sometimes it doesn't work properly. More often than not it does work. Just make sure your full health before opening doors/containers incase it is trapped.

In regards to the cliffracer that came through the roof. Since this is the oblivion engine creatures can follow you through zones. So the Cliffracer agro-ed before you went in and followed you. This isn't a bug per say more like a feature. Be careful though creatures like Cliffracers or Ogrims can clip violently when entering caves and cause your game to crash.

Yes I have come to realize this as I have played more, I just assumed it was a glitch because of the lag it causes. Now I always clear out all nearby cliff racers before entering a dungeon. Also I downloaded a mod that changes the lock picking system back to the Morrowind format, this seems to make the trap system work flawlessly for me.
