Going through Edwinna Elbert's Mage Guild quests in Ald'ruhn and when I was given the Nchuleftingth Expidition quest it did not update to my journal. When I found the people in the ruin the quest did activate but I was forced to use a console command to finish the quest. Anes Vendu (or whatever)'s body and book and robot had not loaded so (on checking a thread here) I used a command to bring him to me and murder him for his plans, then I used a setstage command to move the quest along. I was able to finish the quest normally by talking with her, but when I was given the next quest (Mzuleft Scarab Plans) it never created a journal entry. I found the plans in the Vacant Tower (I suspect the plans in Mzuleft may not have been loaded either, they were not on the shelf I read they normally are on) and returned with them to Edwinna and now she has no dialog options for the quest and I cannot continue.
Whew.
I think you shot yourself in
I think you shot yourself in the foot by using console commands that much. If you think you found a quest bug you can report it here so it can be fixed, using the console will only create more problem as you've noticed.
Also, when I played through the mages guild and Morag Tong I never had such problems, also the CS doesn't reveal any immediate bugs. What's your mods list? Also, sometimes I noticed that dialogue scripts won't fire when very quickly clicking through them. Did you make sure to click on every topic that the character had?
The 'Anes Vendu' problem has
The 'Anes Vendu' problem has been with us a while. Most of the time he is not enabled when he should be. Might be a quest glitch, mod conflict, or a corrupt savegame causing it. I've seen countless errors in the morroblivon esm. Most are harmless, but when game conditions are right strange things sometimes happen.
When I did the quest I just enabled him and continued. My esp fix is attachedto this post.

Thanks!
I think the Edwinna thing was me being impatient. As soon as I leveled up a few more times, the quest activated and I was able to move along no problem. I, having not played Morrowind before, didn't realize that some of the quests don't activate until you've reached a certain level. At least that is what seems to be the case so far.

I've installed RefScope to get through some Morag Tong problems like this (quests not recognizing that I've finished them) and was hoping to fix this Mage Guild problem with it, but I realize now that if I haven't been given a quest at all, I can't very well use RefScope to find its Quest ID. Is there any way to find out what the ID is without actually having the quest?
