[SOLVED] Wrye Bash/OBSE Crash Upon Startup

Submitted by EmeraldX on

Solved:

  • Deactivate the plugins with red checkboxes.
  • It appears that the unofficial patches for shivering isles and knights of the nine were causing the issues.
  • If all else fails, uncheck all individual files

Hi, I've looked just about every where for answers, but apparently I might be blind. Anyways, I properly installed both games, and all the required files to play Morroblivion. I start up Wrye Bash, press start oblivion/OBSE, a black screen will open up like it is about to start and then close soon after.

Oblivion is a retail bought game, and Morrowind is a steam game. My load order is as follows:

EDIT: It appears that the unofficial patches for shivering isles and knights of the nine were causing the issues.

So, that got me a little bit farther than before. I get to the Bethesda logo and then I get the Oblivion.exe has stopped working alert.

@EmeraldX,

I am having a very similar, if not the exact same, problem as you. I followed the install directions and when I start up Wrye Bash, press start oblivion/OBSE, a black screen will open up like it is about to start and then close soon after.

Even though this thread says solved, the solutions provided did not work for me. I unchecked everything that was an "unofficial patch" and the game still would crash immediately. I also unchecked the "optional" Morroblivion mods (in addition to unchecking all of the unofficial patches), which left the core files, and still no luck. Unlike your screenshot, I don't have any red checkboxes. I've attached a screenshot of what my load list looks like (load order provided by Boss).

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Glad to see I am not the only one having problems like this.

If you can't even get the core Oblivion to run with OBSE there must be a basic issue.

1. Are you running release 1.2.416 of Oblivion?

2. Are you using the latest OBSE release v0021?

3. Does Oblivion start without OBSE?

4. Are you running a steam version of Oblivion?

I remember someone mention problems with OBSE and Steam. He said that a special OBSE steam loader Exe is required and he had to close the Steam client before launching OBSE. Otherwise OBSE wouldn't run.

5. Have you checked "obse_loader.log" in your Oblivion directory for clues?
