Morroblivion

So everytime I raid a cave of smugglers or something there are always crates (obvious).  But in the crates there usually are Soul gems, and for some reason every soul gem I find is filled with a soul less than the gems potential (such as a lesser soul in a common gem, or a greater soul in a grand gem).  This problem makes it difficult to find empty soul gems to use on animals and such, which bothers me because I achieve some deranged satisfaction everytime I capture a soul haha.  So is this just something I did, or does everybody have this problem?
