[WIP] Molag Amur

Submitted by Tarn IV on

I'm back and I've been reassigned. I am now working on the Molag Amur region. I have provided a couple of screenshots that are hopefully there, I've never used the hidden text thing before. I started outside Molag Mar, I did this because it was a cell I knew was in the Molag Amur region. I haven't done much so far just because I'd like some feedback before continuing, so please, if you have any criticism, voice it.

Screenshots (Hopefully)

Edit: Maybe now the hidden text thing works?

Very nice. Maybe add a bit of road texture painting on landscape, they are barely visible.

Do you mean darken/color them or add more/different textures?

Up to you to decide, I don't know if there is a specific path (road) texture available for MA. But paths should look "used" and be lighter, not darker. I can already spot some lighter landscape spots on you screenshots which means some additional texture is alpha layered there, they just don't follow the path and barely visible.

I aim to get you at least one new molag amur rockbatch within a month. Ancient lava flows, fresh lava flows, loads of different rocks, some huge land features, its gonna be a game changer  for the area when complete.
The only worry I have is that some of the stuff i had hoped for included a large stretch of flat land for some of it, and i cant find many areas like that, thanks to morrowinds awful "walls" everywhere.

I can't wait to get my hands on these :) Keep up the good work

I bring more screenshots. Hopefully the roads are more clearly visible now, and I have done some work on the sulfur lands and the shore against Molag Mar. It won't get much better without other eyes looking at it, so critique is appreciated. (Oh, and Ravanna, I patiently await your rock assets, I don't have all that many to work with right now.)

Hint: less trees. Most of Molag Amur was never actually forest, and this is denser than ascadia currently.

In all of them or mainly just the last two pictures? If it's the last two pictures I really don't have many assets to use for the sulfur lands.

To be fair, might be good to leave it slightly blank until the assets are pumped out, and fill it with other things in later passes.

Having said that, I wouldn't mind some landscapes, ESPECIALLY ashlands, being more barren. Most ashy screenshots I see around here are cluttered beyond need. It really wouldn't hurt to leave these regions more barren, even though open spaces are harder to manage and look good. I sense a general tendency of horror vacuumi among most landscapers - doesn't hurt that much with some regions, but Molag Amur and Ashlands are supposed to be a pretty empty wasteland. Constant ashstorms would probably grind down most of what's sticking out, starting with a few petrified tries, if any actually ever managed to grow there in the first place.

So yeah, easier on them trees :P

Yeah, Ravanna and I had a conversation about this last night, the way it came out is that I'm going to be waiting a bit for some new environmental assets and then going through and doing pass 1/.5 or whatever, because it already had a kind of pass 1 that needs to be redone, and before I get to ramble-y the conclusion is that it'll be a bit until an update as I wait for assets, but I will not be gone from the site.

These assets aren't fully complete.  I was under the assumption we'd be using tiled "dead wood" texture with a burnt overlay.  these all look completely burnt.  I also see all the assets aren't being used.  Diversity is a good thing!

Like I just said, I'm going to be waiting a little bit for more assets before continuing, as for the trees, I think Vita made them, ask him...

3D assets are made by Vita and me.  I've got 3 trees and a stump.  I'll probably have to convert them myself it seems.
