Vivec Housing

Submitted by Tyveras on

So, I've been given the task of recreating all the housing in the City of Vivec. I've been toiling away in the dark for a bit, combined with inevitable real life progress has been a bit slower than I hoped. So I thought, I would show what I've got and get some feedback. Hopefully get me moving faster.

RomanDubina's concept art so far has been guiding how I remake these buildings. Though nothing is textured so far, as I'll have to talk to a few texture artists for help about that soon.

As always, critique is welcome.

I like the variety. You can tell the top one will have wood elements at the roof, while the other ones are more in-line with the canton style. Keeping that in mind, the wood construction looks a little too 'Imperial'. If you're building these according to Roman's concept art (found here) you'll see that all of the houses or stores with wooden roofs to look more like shacks, for poorer commoners, than the houses in the canton plaza.

I also find it a little strange that none of them have windows, and that one of them at least doesn't have a chimney. [External image]

Watch out for sizing. Sizing can make the city fill more like a city if the building is sized right. Make sure that the house is as close to the interior size as possible.

yes, but I think that could also be a good thing given how close knit vivic is. having houses that are styled exactly the same could quickly give some of the cantons a really repetitive look, by designing the houses like so, it could prove to be very easy to add some vastly different static objects to the exterior; doors, windows, lights. etc.

So we can expect a few windows being modeled separately sometime soon, then? ;)

if that's a hint, then sadly not from my place. I've never really modeled something interesting and the best I've done is change the textures on a nirnroot. that being said, there's nothing stopping me from learning by doing some very small item work, if that helps alleviate the stress to the asset guys to potentially do bigger work.

please do, Epoch.

As windows are a visual focal we may consider baking them if their design is ornate.

If we decide to add windows to the house model later, its fairly easily done, so if u focs on pure modeling for now, giving thought as to what everything is made of, we can focus on vert colour/overlays/adding windows at the very end.

Keep going my son! :p

cool, I'll check out whatever relevant threads there are in a few days, since I already promised to do some of the d letter facegen for skyblivion first.

ah, modularity is great :)

Also, the reason the roof of the first house is so different is because of the original morrowind model: https://tesrenewal.com/files/happychappy/images/viv_house01.jpg

That roof just doesn't look capable of supporting itself. But I wanted to keep that curved roof, so... That was the result.

Awesome! Every bit of progress on Vivec makes my day brighter. Can't wait to see how that city develops...

aside from some lines needing merged, this topology is great for both UVing, smoothing, and vert baking. good job.

Great work Tyveras! Between you and Ruingato working on the interiors, Vivec is going to look stunning.

This housing alone is already going to embellish Vivec like nothing else. Big-time sploosh here.

Love it. This is really capturing the style of Velothi architecture, they'll blend in perfectly. Keep up the great work!

alpha vivec housing textures, only diffuse.
Tyv to slap em on, and throw all the houses at eloth, so we can get all the meshes ingame and used by landscapers asap.
We can then come back to these houses later and add more detail.
