A Possible Lore-Friendly Dragon in Skywind?

Submitted by Vitamin_gun on

I know what you're saying. "There's no dragons in Morrowind!" Not in the actual game, no. But in Skyrim we find a book written by the ancient Dragonguard called Atlas of Dragons. This book was written in 2E 373, more than an era before the wonderful adventures of the Nerevarine take place.

Atlas of Dragons has an interesting bit of information about a certain dragon named Ahbiilok, saying this about the dragon:

Sightings dating back to the early years of the Dragonguard throughout the northern Jerralls. Multiple attempts to kill him have failed. He is believed to be lairing somewhere in Morrowind.

So the book says there is a dragon believed to be hiding in Morrowind. The book doesn't say where in Morrowind, but seeing as Vvardenfell takes up a pretty big chunk of Morrowind, it's possible that Ahbiilok is hiding somewhere on the island.

So why not include him as an Easter egg? Just use a dragon from Skyrim and give it a name. Hide him somewhere to surprise the player, and baby, you've got a stew going! an Easter egg!

That would be nice, although I would imagine it would be more likely that Ahbiilok would lair in the Velothi Mountains, there seems to be less Cliff Racers there. Cliff Racer swarms are suprisingly effective against Dovah. Although, there is a chance that he is the supposed dragon found in the "smoking ruins of Vvardendell".

I recall someone making some concept art for him, if he laired in Red Mountain.

There was a concept somewhere - he was said to be infected by the blight.

I also voiced an idea during the "Test Youself as a TES developer!" competition in which I proposed that the dragon could be found in the catacombs underneath Ghostgate, guarding the relic there. I had a bit of lore and other information to go along with it.

Honestly, I like the idea but imo this would have to be part of a optional lore expansion plugin.

I agree - likely not part of the main Skywind experience.

I remember M'aiq the Liar said something about dragons, so I looked for his quotes in the wiki:

Morrowind quotes: "Dragons? Oh, they're everywhere! You must fly very high to see most of them, though. The ones nearer the ground are very hard to see, being invisible."

Skyrim quotes: "Dragons were never gone. They were just invisible and very, very quiet."

So, what about adding a Dragon flying very high in the sky and never goes down? Or still better an invisible one in some location where you can't reach him, so you can't attack him with swords, arrows or magic? You can just see him, sitting there, invisible (transparent), doing nothing?

I reaaaallly don't think it's a good idea to take a guy named "the Liar" 's words for truth. Still running into an invisible dragon would be amusing.

The book says "He is believed to be lairing somewhere in Morrowind."

And where do dragons have their lairs?
I would say in a cave in a mountain with a large enough entrance for a dragon to fit in.
Well, theres only one big mountain on Vvardenfell, right? And only one entrance large enough for a dragon to enter.
Let's say that this Ahbiilok crept down in the Red Mountain crater a long time before Dagoth Ur went there for The Heart of Lorkhan. Tired of being hunted, he went to sleep for a long long time, beyond everyone's knowledge beneath the Heart of Lorkhan.
And when you complete the last quest in the main story and everything crumbles, Ahbiilok wakes up and can then be found at the top of the Red Mountain.

Just an idea for a story. I don't know if it makes any sense at all according to the TES Lore, but i had fun coming up with this little fairy tale ^^

The only capacity in which I'd like to see a dragon in Skywind is if we encounter it's remains. Cliff Racers stripped the island clean of those beasts. Nothing but a carcass would be left.

If Abhiilok went to Vvardenfell, he'd probably be eaten by the cliff racers, as has been implied before. The Atlas of Dragons only speaks of a last sighting long ago, not that he is still alive.

Skeletal dragon maybe?

Skeletal dragon maybe?

Maybe revived by some necromancers? That would make a nice quest!

Vvardenfell is already full of many super power artifacts, creatures and stories. I think maximum we can add are the remains of the dragon somewhere underwater like an easter egg.

We have enough quests about Dragons and necromancers in Skyrim already, if we're to pump effort into actually adding new quests I'd rather have them something new and different.

Another thing is that Ahbiilok probably never went to Vvardenfell. I'd expect Velothi mountains to be his most possible lair. You could take that idea to Tamriel Rebuilt team ;)

Weren't the dragons of morrowind driven off/killed by the cliff racers.

I know this thread is pretty much dead. But I'm a HUGE supporter of the idea of Ahbiilok having an appearance in skywind. Not only does Atlas Of Dragons speak of this dove, but another book in skyrim called Twin Secrets also speaks of a dragon encounter. A master inchanter (who's name I can't remember) seek knowledge of magic. He engaged in combat with this dragon at the, and I quote, "Ruined mountains of Varrdanfell. The two where very weak from battle, but the mage had the upper hand. He was able to muster one final blow, but instead, he consulted with the beast, saying that he would spare his life in the exchange for knowledge. The dova asked what the human wanted to know. And so, the mage asked of it's name. The dragon replied by saying it would rather die than give it's name. Instead he gives the mage knowledge of magic, but it was too powerful a spell for a mortal human to master. (And I think the dragon knew that.) Thus, the mage drains his own energy until he slowly withered away. So it's got to be Ahbiilok. It would be so awesome to have him as an added quest. Or at the very least, an easter egg.

There have been discussions regarding this guy. We'll see what comes of it - fingers crossed ;)

Really well hidden surprise :)

Living one would be alien there, but some full and well-studied skeleton in Dwemer museum or something could be organic enough.

Maybe one head would be enough or if you want to have it really fascinating - you could make cave with really colossal dragon skeleton in it (like in Arcanum, Bellerogrim Lair). In Skyrim dragons were really pity in sizes and performance characteristics.

I think that's really thin place in TES lore - Bethesda wants all fairy tales to be true/live there. That's wrong way to crazy worlds/universes like WOW. Some things must be dead/myphological.

like a skeleton stuck in lava

[External image]if there was a live 1 and than u kill it and u start sucking up its soul would be a bit lore unfriendly

wasnt there also a concept for a dragon whit corpus ? cant seem to find it

I think we are needing to overwrite Dragons for technical reasons to get Cliffracers, so I wouldn't get your hopes up for this.
