I found this mod on the nexus that allows armor and weapons to deteriorate and break. Its called Weapons and Armor Degradation and Repair with MCM Menu Options
I looked at this once, got to second the script intensiveness. If someone wants to use it with skywind power to them, but from my little bit of poking around skyrim's engine isn't really suited for this kind of thing.
Item deterioration is never implemented well in games. It's a gaming conceit to add extra complication. Weapons are tools and I have tools that get used almost every day that are over ten years old. I could see it for leather armor, but anything metal would last too long to justify it.
No need to implement item degradation. It's not a main feature of Skyrim gameplay and is usually not well handled, resulting usually only in a tedious routine. If someone really wants it in Skywind he can use the linked mod with no issues, but as a default feature ? I'd say nope.
Have you guys perchance seen Loot and Degradation? I've been using it for ages and it makes tempered weapons/armour degrade back to their default state with usage. Also, the mod gives all equipment a chance of being tempered by default.
Even if Skywind didn't include some kind of degradation system, this is the mod I would use anyway. It's compatible with pretty much everything.
Sure it would be an ice cream on the cake for ones who is in fond of realism. But for gods sake, people stay focused on the core content of the game. There is no point putting sauce on the plate when there is nothing to eat on it.
Well, I was thinking about like in Fallout New Vegas. You know how they have a Hardcore setting? I was thinking if they could do the same thing in Skywind. Like with this mod and the item consuming and more things. What do you think about that?

Thing with equipment degradation is that it was done really badly in Morrowind. There are ways to make it a really relevant feature to the gameplay, like it was for example in Arx Fatalis (and in Diablo to a degree), in which games, if you tried to fix weapons with low skills you ended up prolonging their lives, but the initial endurance was lowered. So if you had a sword that is 100/100, used it until it dropped to 20/100, by fixing it yourself with a low skill you would end up with a sword that is 60/60. It was a tough decision to make.
Another great thing equipment degradation does, and it was working in Morrowind, was that materials had new interesting properties. It would actually work well to even emphasize those. Glass might be much lighter, faster and sharper than ebony, but it breaks easily and is dead hard to fix. Ebony on the other hand is heavy, but nearly indestructible. Steel is very tough compared to iron, but iron weapons are not hard to fix, so you can easily fix and sharpen them yourself in the field. Silver sword is sharper than steel, but very delicate. In Morrowind early game I used to carry a silver sword for additional damage and to fight magical creatures, and a steel sword that dealed less damage, but wouldn't break so quickly. That added real proper depth to choosing your weapon, as opposed to just "take the one with more dmg".
So in a few words, to me at least equipment degradation is not only a realism gimmick, but something that can actually deepen the gameplay. Should it be added? I think there are slightly higher priorities, but it definetly should be looked into if any programmer finds themselves free.
Also would be nice to implement different materials/glues to fix items. I am sick of one-time-usable hammers.
Another difference of materials could be need for additional material to fix it : generally metals dont breaking in pieces even with severe deformation.
Sounds interesting for the smithign system, which was used in Morrowind... Thanks!
That shit was so script intensive it wasn't funny.
would be kind to have some simple 'sharpness' for blade weapons.
working as a poison, but with prolonged effect

I would be pleased just by sharpness and shields breakable to pieces.

Even if you guys disagree, they did have this in the original morrowind game.

Unless it's really tasty sauce...
But yeah, I think there are quite a few third party mods that should be Skywind friendly for this if people want to have it in.

I agree with Drago 104%.

No, they just get dull. Crystal on the other hand...
