Horse Riding? But not!

Submitted by SlappyThePoptart on

I suggest you guys put something like horses in the game, but horses couldn't possibly survive in Morrowind's harsh environment. So, taking some ideas from ESO, I suggest Guar Riding as a feature to be put in Skywind. Are you not wanting to expand on Morrowind's perfection? Admit it, it's a great idea. Other great idea: let's finish  this and release it by 11-11-15.

This idea has been posted quite a lot, here is an image relevant to the suggestion though ;)

I believe I saw a video some time ago that showed someone riding a Guar in an older Skywind build, but I could be mistaken.

Battle guars, riding shrimps, mount wasps. Nowadays i think that even lore-friendly mount guar would be too strange for small elvish colony huddles on tiny volcanic island, where they can be driven to any point by giant slow walking fleas or teleported to temple with any weight by simple theurgists' magic.

Selection of the mount horse is just too lucky coincidence even if you need it, struggling in boundless steppe. For this case I would confine with chariot driven by guars. However, even all the king's horses, all the king's men of Bethesda never made it good enough working more than on scripted last mile.

This can be only some kind of circus thing - alike of mount ostrich.

Using guars in the Skywind like mounts is very good idea, but I can't understand why horses can't survive in Morrowind? Are conditions of the Morrowind so harsh, that steeds are dying like a flies. IRL people use horses in searing deserts and in cold tundra. In some regions people use horses in present time, and this regions more harsh, than Vvanderfell.

We should tell the truth - horses are not provided in Morrowind because developers do not add them for technical reason. And then they thought out a reason.

I understand, that horses are not native creatures of Morrowind. But steeds are traditional mounts of imperial race. Yes, it will be quite expensive to buy they in this province. But existence of horses in imperial settlements and forts is logically enough. And this can't destroy the atmosphere of the game.

Correct me for wrong.

Ash in air, poison in grass, death in stomach of elves - and i just think that such exotic island must not have such common things that you can get in flat Skyrim.

Horse will spoil exotic game world as man, rat, heather, salmon or other pieces of natural world.

The main reason why horses can't survive in Morrowind is because they're delicious. All natives, humanoid or not would want to just eat them right away. I'd really like it if horses did appear on Vvardenfell, but were limited to either Imperial forts/settlements as transport of important people (not very common and not for sale unless you steal one, possibly heavily guarded), and perhaps as an easter egg in Dren Plantation, kept there for their meat.

Oh, and I actually made a drawing too:

A bit unfinished, but the idea was that they'd patrol the roads around Ald'ruhn the way guards in Oblivion did around Imperial City. Difference being that roads around Ald'ruhn can be really dangerous.

And a few months back I was sharing screens on Skype with Alexb, to give him feedback on the texture of glass armor. He was riding a guar around all the time - that was already implemented. If merged, I have no idea, but I would assume so, hopefully...

Need to add to general fraction property 'attack horses on sight' :)

You'd have to be careful with that though. I doubt everyone would attack the horse if there was an Imperial on it for example.

I would love to see some pack guars as 'beast of burden' followers (set to the creature slot):

There are those guar carts too, I'm not sure if it would be possible to attach a pack guar to one though.
