Skywind

Submitted by metaton on

Hi Guys,

I am following Skywind for a long time now, I think I heard about it around beginning of this year first and since then almost every week I look around here, just to sadly realize...nothing yet.

I am not impatient, I don`t want to ruin my joy with Skywind to play with a half-made demo, so I completely understand, that there is no download to protect the mod. (and the first time experience)

However I am really curious how far you went with it?

Is it near completion or half way? I won`t come back every week if I would know it won`t be out for at least 6 months. Could you give us an ETA guys, or at least share the level of completion with us, impatient desperate ex-Morrowinders who struggle to hold the massive amount of love and tension at bay?

                       Thank you.

and thank you for what you are doing.

                            MAXIMUM RESPECT.

As a fellow enthusiast,I want the mod(Is it even a mod at this point?Might as well call it a game) to come out very soon, but I'm just echoing what the top brass says whenever someone asks them about the release date: It will come out when its done. Skywind is still in its alpha stage and there's A LOT more work to be done. Do continue to check in from time to time though, see if there's anything that you can do to help and witness its progress...

16 Months ago, when we started taking it seriously, we still didn't know how much work it was to create what we wanted: a full game.
16 Months later, we actually managed to pass the point where we know we can finish this, but we also have come to terms with reallity.
Aside from a few skyrim assets, and its engine, we're creating a full game of assets, landscaping, questing and voice acting.
Bethesda did this in 3 years with full paid staff of professionals.
We've been at this 16 months with a few full non paid volunteers and a lot of lurkers.

If we get more help in coding/scripting and landscaping, we can be done mid next year.
And for a group of non paid volunteers with almost none of us having experience or professional ability, thats a bloody good result.

Thank you very much for the information, I will check in in the future, unfortunately I just a gamer, I don`t have such skills:S

I hope you won`t give up in the middle, as you did a lot of work, put so much effort in it.

We all waiting from a "safe distance" and behold the creation.:)

Thank you.

Get skills. Chances are that we will be working on this for a while.. with dedication, you could learn a skill well enough to the point where you can help with the project. Find out what needs doing and start learning.. stuff like landscaping I imagine you could learn long before we finish.

I will be taking an intro to programming class at my college in January. I will also be taking html, dbms/sql, php, c#, and i am self teaching myself c++. I am not sure what will be needed other than the c++. I haven't taken these classes but should be able to help after i start some these classes. I have no idea what coding languages the Intro to programming has yet. Currently I am in networking for developers class which is just so i understand how a network works. sorry if this was to much of a response I'm still a beginner when it comes to programming.

Oh, neato! I've just finished an introductory course myself, so I know how you feel. If you get to learn C#, I know we could possibly find some use for it :). If you learnt Papyrus, that may also be helpful to us. It might be easier to learn once you've done some other object oriented programming though.

thank you for the advice. I won't be able to help until I have started the intro to programming class though for i know only a little programming with self teaching myself c++ (which is the first lesson, but i still have it memorized for the most part). I also would like to work on video games in a game studio after i am done in college.
