Skywind Map

Submitted by JustSnilloc on

This is probably minor in implementation, but would make Skywind a much more pleasurable experience. Anyone ever notice how the Skyrim engine marks your map every time you visit a notable area? Anyone ever notice how your map can quickly become cluttered?

My suggestion is that the map markers be done in categories which would allow the user to toggle which categories they would like to see. Examples...

- Major Cities
- Minor Towns
- Caves
- Land Marks
- etc.

Yes, this would obviously require the scripting and categorization of the map markers, but it would make the map SOO much nicer to look at after you've traveled across Vvardenfell quite a bit.

That's the kind of thing that would be an addon, but definitely not in the main file. Anything that wasn't inside either Skyrim or Morrowind will most likely not be in Skywind.

Sounds like you're looking for a Skyrim map mod if it annoys you in the vanilla game too.

I can see the reasoning behind that, but there will be many things not in the original Morrowind (or Skyrim) that make it into Skywind simply for a more pleasurable experience. I'm not saying "This is my idea, so it has to be great.", I'm just saying that it's a simple/subtle addition that would make a positive difference.

Essentially, that is what Skywind is, yes? A Skyrim mod (or collection thereof)? I suggest this because it would be a completely optional change that would benefit all. You can still have everything show up on your map if you so choose, but you also have the option of refining what is shown to you.

Snilloc's right. It's a pretty good idea, but the problem is that it really doesn't fall under Skywind's scope.

There is still a lot that needs developer attention before things like this such as landscaping and asset modeling. However, it is a good idea--just ranked low on terms of priority.
