The Black Guar Courier

Submitted by lukkar on

Sth like in Olbivion. It would be great addition to game and I don't think this is too hard to implement. I can provide logo or several dunmer illustration for it. Just give writers task to writers to write news for particular quests. It would be great to create some art for tabloid style newspaper.

---------------

Small offtop ,it would be good to add some advertisements too in inns and taverns related with miscellaneous quests

I wouldn't do this, Morrowind to me seamed like a more savage area, I would add rumors to npc`s but not actual newspapers. Or maybe you could but only to imperial hubs.

EDIT: What do you think about notice board?

Honestly, the Black Horse Courier seemed to be Cyrodill thing and was used to emphasis the metropolitan life style of the center of the empire. If someone has some lore that going on or shortly before the events of Morrowind and wants write about it (or lore friendly short story,opinion piece, or any other standard tabloid/newspaper affair), I suppose they could do a Black Horse Courier paper and it could be placed in some Imperial Settlements like Ebonheart. It'd make sense I suppose that the Immigrants of Morrowind would like to keep up to date on their home province or other parts of the Empire...and it also makes sense that the Elder Council would want to send copies to certain towns to keep them more integrated in the Empire.

But if anything the Temple would probably never tolerate a Dumner newspaper. Even if it was run by them they'd rather spread their propaganda through things like religious text and force.

@Nandi

Quite good idea. It could be some wall next to tavern.

@Shushine

We have a lot of places where it could be selling. Maybe with additional place like Balmora which is trade center and most it is cosmopolitan.

"The Common Tongue" was present in Mournhold, though likely because these things are more likely to appear in more westernized metropolitan areas. Still, I could see these things being in Hlaalu or Imperial towns maybe even certain parts of Vivec for that reason.

"A poet can have no higher purpose than to tell the truth about the human condition." -- Lord Vivec

There could be more localized articles in Vivec, and I think perhaps some imperial houses could have some outdated Black Horse articles with them, referencing some events occurring in the empire. The Common Tongue is a cheap anonymous tabloid, which muckrakes the king, but it gives insight into some ideas that there could be more tabloids, likely one that is more public.

How about "literature" being handed to you by the imperial cult and the temple (unless you are already a member) about your lord and savior, the Tribunal/Divines

The Imperial Cult in Morrowind is the missionary arm of the Cyrodiilic pantheon after all, so missionaries (likely unsuccessful in converting too many of the xenophobic Dunmer) and their texts would be quite fitting.

Dunmer would probably not have newspapers, just doesn't seem like their thing, even under Imperial influence. I'd be totally okay with Imperial press and religious flyers though.

If Dunmer temple would have any flyers they'd be probably woodblock/stone printed and very similar to the banners hanging all around in Vivec. They'd be written in Daedric alphabet and with holy depictions of Saints. Something like "St. Olms is watching over you", or "Blessing of the Three". Cheap tokens for religious lower class, kind of like this:

I'd also love to see relic trade, like in late medieval Catholic Europe. Market stalls with cheap carved religious figurines, amulets, medalions, candles, pictures - all kinds of souvenirs that religious Dunmer would buy and put in their homes to show how much they praise AlmSiVi and the Saints.
I imagine the Saints would be most revered among the lower class - since they so often are patrons of various craftsmen and workers, nobles would probably go directly to Tribunal, and their family ancestors (so interior artists could keep that in mind, if we get the little devotionals modelled and put in game).
I really would like to see something like this scattered across the more religious spots in Morrowind, especially Vivec and Molag Mar:

If St. Llukar feels like drawing some concepts of religious souvenirs it'd be great ;) If you would start on that, keep in touch with Iceflame542 and Mway1 on lore about saints and their depictions. Same style as you did in the Frescos, but probably even more simplistic.

I planed doing some figurines, for reverse we can just use my old concept. Dumner are really conservative, religion is conservative even more than I don't see point to not just reuse it.

Only get rid off magical signs and add 3 more saints + use some VAS depictions. For obverse maybe this is good idea to use rosary style.

On imperial newspaper. Maybe just create local version of Black Horse Courier sth like Black Horse Courier: Vvanderfell, in Ebonheart. It would be cool to see how imperials look at this island and how they twist local news. Of course some archive newspaper form mainland would cool too.
