I have been following the project for some time now, and I must say, as of late I'm getting really excited with your progress :)
I know housing wasn't obviously intended nor implemented in the original, but I must say, I would LOVE having my own place in this beautifully updated Vvardenfell.
Now back in Morrowind I, (As I'm sure many of you also did) would find a suitable house, "Dispose" of the owner, and "Adopt" the house as my own, and decorate it as I saw fit. Seeing as how the item placement on Skyrim's Engine is a bit more difficult, are there any plans on adding a few homes for players to purchase/live in? Perhaps a few options in each of the towns like the latter TES games?
.

Nothing against it per se but not very high priority at the moment. Archievision added one to Caldera IIRC (not released to public yet).
As I recall you can get your own place for becoming the head of any Great House.
it wouldn't be terrible to have other options too, though.
@Smite Ah yes, your right, I forgot all about those!
@Digital, Yes of course, just wondering :P Can't wait for the full release!

Pelagiad actually, IIRC
Another option would be to make sure containers in NPC houses do not reset. and (not sure if its possible) to make sure npc house cells do not reset either.
If we could do this, it would allow us to take houses of dead NPC's as our own just like in Morrowind.
Honestly I don't know what Skyrim did not do it this way to begin with. I doubt anyone would complain about carrots not respawing in houses.
some discussion and materials is here

however, to make several sticky topics is good idea.
Actually in MW: Bloodmoon we can build not house, but even town. That's super-effective!

There is a very good reason for them not doing this. Game save bloat. Every items type and position is saved in your character game save. And the saves get bigger every time you save. And once you reach a certain size they have a very good chance of becoming corrupted or not useable any longer. If ever house had to be saved the saves would only work for a few times and be unuseable.
Player houses are not hard to do. There are tones of tuts on YouTube that teach how to do this very thing. But, with how we are all limited and have Real world responsibilities. We have to prioritize our time into what is needed most for Skywind. If someone from outside of the developer team took this on and created a mod. that was good and thought out on where and how the houses are placed, and cluttered. They might make a merge in the near future.
Archie, I completely agree and understand, I would love for someone to do so. I'm completely inexperienced when it comes to the Construction Kit, but I'd definitley enjoy it if someone did that.
As to what Digital was saying, that could be cool also, like the ability to purchase a deceased person's home, after getting killed in a quest (Maybe from the town's respectable Great House Hall?). Then once purchased it, simply changes the locks on the doors, and the safe storage options. Granted I'm not a modder, but it'd seem reletively simple, and wouldnt require adding whole new buildings to town layouts.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but since this is a mod for Skyrim I see no reason this entire project can't be used in conjunction with one of the many mods that allow a player to make ANY storage container a "safe" container, correct?
This would eliminate any need for this project to waste time on this aspect of the player homes in Morrowind, as the issue is already covered by several simple mods. It certainly seems much easier to drop another plugin into your Skyrim folder than to cajole the Skyrim engine into halting its respawning rota.
The hearthfire mechanics really fleshes out the town building idea for solstheim.
hmmm. i like the idea. how about having quests for each house that get you a house! like the whole thane thing in skyrim. something around the corners of a redoran quest in which you must stay posted and guard an outpost for a few days, then come back and either get a house in ald ruhn or flesh out the outpost. eventually becoming mayor...
or a telvanni one in which you must help with the growth of a new city (seeing that the telvanni are very expansive) and protect it from invaders. then you know the rest. just an idea to add some smart new content all the while making the game more immersive!
