Script Conversion possible?

Submitted by Ormin on

Hi guys,

any of you are familiar with Oblivion AND Skyrim scripting systems and can tell if they are somehow similar? If so I could try to experiment with oblivion's compiled scripts and try to port them to papyrus. Still, it's just an idea and need to know if there are much similarities so the work is actually somehow possible :D

Thanks!

Wait a second.  Ormin... That sounds familiar.  Did you work on the Andoran converter?

Two completely different scripting engines. Papyrus was created from scratch for Skyrim, uses a different ideology, inheritance, syntax, bytecode etc.

But... the script sources are just a plain text for both games, so in theory it is possible to convert them. It will require to write a parser for both scripting systems though.

For me it would be a waste of time. The script are not "translatable", the way you plug them to your quests is really different... Let's not try to fit squares into circles...

Have to agree with digital on this. Writing scripts for skyrim is relatively easy, and it's not really that much of a time sink. Not only that, but the entire mechanics in skyrim are different.

We don't need morroblivion converted scripts because in the end, we would need to write new scripts anyways because of how different the game is to oblivion.
