[WIP] Grazelands Landscaping

Submitted by thedarkprince on

So, I finally started working on the Grazelands after checking the assets we have etc and I wanted to post a few screenies to be sure I'm "Drag&Drop"ing it right!

Check 'em out and let me know asap!

I love it. Once a few more trees and shrubs break up the ground more, it'll look really polished. I'm looking forward to seeing more, keep it up!

looking nice :) you should use a lot of embankments, or small grass/cliff meshes in this region

I like the way this is coming out :)

I don't know if someone care but I've already done the grazelands...

he is using the latest master with your plugin merged, and you see how the grazelands look like, are you sure you gave the plugin to happychappy? i know the bittercoast is done, and i can see the changes, but not in the grazelands

Nevermind, i'm on my phone right now and I cant't see all the pics. Are you sure all the assets are converted?Normally the hills should be almost completely covered. I don't.mind if you change what I've done, I just wanted to know if my work isn'lost : )

Yes it seems there is a problem, some rocks are probably missing. It should look like the screens I've posted on the screenshots thread...

I went to the Grazelands and seen your changes there, it has a bit of rock issues but it's there. I'm not sure how much you did, and I think only you would know lol.

i see the changes you did now, but there is still room for improvement regarding grass and landtexture painting, as there could be a bit more diverse grasstypes, and in general there is too much grass, atleast its very dense. and could be more small rocks scattered around. And i think a few small lakes here and there would be nice.

And one more thing, there should be embankments along the road, like in skyrim, you know those half grass, half rock/dirt meshes.

@Thedarkprince:

You have to start over again im afraid, and make sure you are using the latest master, i linked it to you earlier, but maybe you didnt install it.

@anthelius:

Ps. what you did was great, im not dissing your work ;)

I updated my skywind with the master you send me Eloth the very night we had our first talk! Yesterday I also downloaded the latest package updated 26th may!

Dunno what the problem was as I couldnt see any of the rocks on the hills but I guess I found out why I couldnt see them! The rocks were UNDER the terrain\land and I couldnt see them for one simple reason : RED ESCAMATION POINT (the error model). I clicked it and the rock was set to go for the model of (GL02ROCKxxx) instead of (0GL02ROCKxxx). Dunno why the models that were already done on the grazelands were set without the "0" in front, but that is probably why I couldnt see them and everything appeared to be "new & without design touch".

It is not a problem for me to start all over as I like to work as a team but you guys must tell me if I still have to stay on the Grazelands and if yes, where to actually start!

If there's anything else, just let me know :)

Normally all the large rocks should be there, you can still add little rocks, bushes (look at what vurt did for morrowind or fallout) streams, lakes or this kind of thing : ) . @eloth: I know, didn't want to sound rude either. I just thougt someone was starting everything from scratch. I'm not at home now but soon I'll have plenty of time to work on something : )

If Anthelius (since its is very own creation from the start) would like to continue to work on the Grazelands I can surely move to something else (example : town cluttering, hidden spots, eye-candies etc) or to some other landscaping!

It wouldnt be a problem for me.

Look nice!

Just don't overdo with rocks, because some areas are supposed to be not rocky. I hope there are other means of decorating landscape besides adding rocks and boulders, otherwise all skywind regions will look kind of same.

I had the same feeling while I was doing the first detailed mountain part near Tel Vos so I went ingame directly and it felt good. From the CK it seemed like I was putting the Grazelands into rocks (instead of rocks into the grazelands XD) but from Ingame everything feels more natural and real. Im gonna give you guys the esp once Ive done at least  a small portion of what I intend to do! :)

Looking good. Just be sure to blend the ground in with the cliffs your using. We shouldn't see a "seam" of where it starts. Other than that, it looks REALLY good. Looking forward to seeing more and trying it out myself :D

The picture below shoes how I took off some "Grass" areas to replace with normal terrain texture (less laggy, more natural)

This one is from a piece of road:

This one is where I show how I am trying to mix different terrains to make it feel more "seemless" on the terrain change

A tent, a buried burnt body, a lake (just eye-candy)   TENT HAS BEEN SET WITHOUT LOADERS, You can enter and its all there (Like in real life!)

Looks great!

A question - is this a tent from Skyrim (hard to see exactly)? Remember we don't use Skyrim's assets directly, only objects from Skywind.esm.

Managed to get hold of a copy of darkprinces plugin and very nice, and hats off again to anthelius for all the hard work he did, amazing.

One thing that struck me when I played Morrowind original was how much grazelands reminded me of Africa. Anyway I went back to the looking at TES3 and thought about things that are are missing...

So here is the result of retexture of the grazelands rocks with sandstone, the ground texture "grass" to be more like dirt and using hoddimir grass (modders resource) for the grasses. Yes the grass is ultra green and in fact can be changed to something else, but it a good representation of shorter grass not really seen in Skyrim assets.

Yes, yes Absolutly yes. Now the only thing to change would be the Cliffs. They are all with the "Moss" texture instead of grass texture and that's not rly good to see! If you can also change that and pass me the new textures Ill be happy to keep on workin on it!

EDIT: Oh wait, Last pick shows a "Cliff08" thats been modified already. Thats awesome. Good job.

Ok cool, but I sort of hacked this together just to see the results. Give me a day to get it a bit more polished and I'll send you the replacers. Won't be able to do it until tomorrow.

seems legit :D

are you go to make the grass browner with less saturation or just keep the classic green?

I agree with LASentry's suggestion.

Go more yellow and desaturated on the grass so it doesn't feel too rich and out of place.

See the attached screenshot!

Hey everyone,

I'm new to the team so thanks for having me and I'll do the best I can !

So I'm taking over the Grazelands. I love the african savannah feel to it, it does look more like the original. I'm currentely checking out the general landscaping thread, the rules, and I'm struggling to get a proper version working since it appears that I'm missing a lot of objects :) but once that's out of the way i'll get to the pimping of the grazelands !

I'll post refs on this thread, and don't hesitate to do that as well. I'll also post screenshot of my progress. Just bear in mind that I also have some caves / mines to do and i'll do my best to split up my time equally !

Cheers

Cant remain in the heads for too much longer. Try and relay that information to the masses :)

Hey,

I would like to actually start working on the GL this week end. I've given some stuff I made to ravanna and am waiting on new assets i supposed, but from what HappyChappy said I can give it a go now and see what I can do. If you guys have "prefered assets" for me to use let me know, else i'll just play around anyway :)

See ya
