Request for an official development video

Many talented video makers out there, so we are wanting to make an official development video to promote general production of the project.

What I was thinking was a chronicle of as many elements that we have done already. This will be everything from creatures, weapons, architecture...everything done so far. Because there is such a large number, we can release a sequence of these. Get the ball rolling.

The idea is for every element is to start off with original model (3 secs)

Then fade in and out to if we have a concept drawing (3 secs)

Then fade in and out to the new model (5 secs)

Then if we have it in game, also a short 5 sec video of it in action, the idea to match up the poses at each stage if possible. Be careful about where the sequence is shot. We don't want unfinished areas or the focus to be taken off the subject. We might even create a dummy interior for them.

If the video producer is feeling confident about doing pans of the actual models themselves then that would be even better. Not sure how to go about this, but probably 3ds max and get a 360 of the models.

Quite often the concept art will determine what the poses are for the model shots.

Because you are matching poses for creatures, you will need some 3d modelling handling of moving bodies into position. Or ask somebody nicely to positions these.

Remember there is a wealth of other things like buildings, clutter, rocks, weapons...do I need to go on?

Person who makes it obviously gets kudos, helps spread the quality of work done here, chronicles development and dear I say it possible revenue :) Also this is our first "official" video and we would use it to promote on websites given the opportunity. I'd even post it on Bethesda forums as its a big "f*ck you" to their faces as it actually shows the process of creating assets. Let them argue over this video. They would look like shits to ban this one. But we will post on as many gamer sites as we can.

What will happen is that as new development is done, we can add them onto the video or create a sequence of them.

Who ever signs up to do this, will get help as much as possible on references and the captures.

Another idea for the video

Another idea for the video was to have the end to end development of an NPC.

Original Morrowind screen capture of talking to a particular NPC. Then switch to Skywind one complete with same dialog, but this time with our voice acting.

Also if a particular location or small area is finished then do the same thing with a short 4 sec video pan of an area in Morrowind. Then do exactly the same angles in Skywind. But you need to make sure its finished.

Good candidates are Molag Amur. Acadian Isles. Parts of West Gash. Just ask and we can give you specific cells.

happychappy I like the idea!

happychappy

I like the idea! I just wanted to say that I started working on something similar 2 days ago.. difference is that I started playing Morrowind again and with the use of some console command Im trying to make a trailer that switches between morrowind and Skywind. I fly into seyda neen using morrowind footage and then Skywind footage fade's in without stopping the video making it look like the 2 vids are a whole.

This may not make any sense but it will once the vid is done xD Im waiting for my new PC cuz the recorded gameplay is a bit jerky at times so not great for a trailer :)

also if you really need

also if you really need people working on this I would LOVE to volunteer. but might it be an idea to use in-game footage from morrowind and skywind? for instance record an ash slave in morrowind then record the same ash slave in the same place but in Skywind? just an idea of course so dont see this as me not liking what you came up with.. cuz I do!

Great minds think alike. I

Great minds think alike. I too had this same idea and have been laying out ideas for myself. I am going to finish 1 another trailer in this next week, but in the mean time I am going to start gathering footage for this. I think it's a brilliant idea and will look amazing if done right.

HOWEVER, I have 0 experience with 3D modeling programs, so the 360 spinning shots I would need someone to get for me. I know there are a lot of talented video editors out there, so let me know if you'd be willing to help me with this.

I fly into seyda neen using

I fly into seyda neen using morrowind footage and then Skywind footage fade's in without stopping the video making it look like the 2 vids are a whole.

The problem with in game footage is that until the models are 100% ours, we are still promoting with ported assets. Seyda is a classic example of this with the buildings still ports. Once the buildings and stone walls are done then this sequence can be shot.

So as long as the footage of an ash slave for example is not showing potentially wrong footage then I'm ok with using that. Wrong might mean, ported assets and the fact that you show them on a red mountain that isn't a final version either. However I'm not sure what sort of control you can get on a creature? Certainly from videos that people have produced in the past using Skyrim NPCs they have precise control over their movements. But not sure for creatures and I wanted slow pans to really show off the detail. The thing with games is that its fast and hard to see detail. Thats why I wanted stills and angles that are exactly the same between the games. I was thinking a 3d program (3ds max?) is going to give you this control.

Sounds interesting, I'd

Sounds interesting, I'd really like to do this! Do you have any specific assets other than the ones on this thread that you want to showcase?

The list is long, very long.

The list is long, very long. I think this needs to be a coordinated effort. I don't think a single person will be able to do all of it.

All of the creatures that we have in game. All of the weapons done so far. Any armours finished. For things like clutter, might get shots of full shelves or market stalls.

Talk to me or Eloth about areas that can be shot, this will help to promote environmental assets and building that are finished. I'll post requests in this thread (op) for specifics that come to mind.

Basically its transforming this websites development into a video form. All the information is in the forums here and can be confirmed through the latest version of the game. So people just need to R&D all the elements of the game so far. Reference the website when doing a particular thing.

What I think we should do is have a person do 1 demo element. We can talk about how we can make it better and then anybody helping out with this will have a template format to work with as it needs to be consistent.

We could do a classic Dev

We could do a classic Dev Diary. Highlighting specific parts of development in each video and have the main contributers to each parts do a slight commentary based on questions we come up with, like, for example, we could do a video on landscaping and be like "what is the appeal of bringing the landscape of Morrowind to a new generation? What's it like?" and the person would, likely, say something like:

"It's a great feeling taking the fantasy elements from the geography and nature of Vvardenfell and breath new life into them using the creation engine. We're doing our best to portray the classic scenery in a way that we, as fans of The Elder Scrolls series ourselves, feel to be the way they were meant to be experienced."

All the while the audio of them talking is overlayed on top of the pans and zooms of the original landscapes vs. the new and improved sexy landscape and maybe, if anyone has the camera for it, they could record themselves doing the answering to the questions in order to make it feel like a real dev diary that you might see on like, Bethesda or Zenimax's official youtube (like for ESO)

Just a thought for it. I doubt I would be in any of the videos, but I certainly wouldn't mind recording myself and becoming the face of Skywind and showing everyone that we're just normal people. Normal fans like everyone else who are passionate about a wonderful series.
