New Engine

From what I've read, it's for PS4 and Xbox. Likely due to adding mod support. Can't really say anything about moving assets over, because we have no idea what's been changed.

EDIT: One of the guys made a very good point about where the mods would come from, if not from a PC version. Which is a very good point. So we'll see in the coming days what all the fuzz is about.

If anything, it's like a 5-year anniversary edition for newer consoles; they've left PC alone since the paid mods fiasco last year

Don't get hyped on this remaster, it's just the porting to the new console generation they made while developing Fallout 4. They did it as step 1 in developing Fallout 4, so there isn't nothing new. Since they already have it, now they will sell it. There will be no pc version because there is nothing new, it's just the old game "new gen" compatible.

Sancez, if that is true I would be so sad.  A new engine would be so nice, because the current Skyrim engine has so many limitations.  When using heavy mods it quickly becomes apparent that the Skyrim engine's threading capabilities, its graphics API, the amount of RAM it can address, etc. are pretty insufficient.  

No way there is an update on the engine. That was made later when making FO4 after the porting was done. And we are not gonna see a pc version of it, because it's really the same thing. Actually I'm not even sure there will be mod support for this version of Skyrim, exactly for the reasons you mentioned, and I find hard to believe they updated the engine to address that many problems.

Looks like I was half right: it's only consoles, no pc version, and there will be mods support.

Also, it will get installed in a different directory, so it can coexist with old Skyrim.

I just wonder about .esm, .esp, .nif, etc compatibility with current Skyrim. It is not like they revealed much.

For all we know, it might be the original Skyrim engine with some tweaks and additives. I honestly think Skywind is better off continuing on the path it is on. Let's at least not make any decisions about this until the remaster is actually released.

No its practically been confirmed that its on Fallout 4's engine, since in an interview long before re-mastered was confirmed, it was mentioned that the Beth team ported skyrim into Fallout 4's engine for testing reasons. Its pretty reasonable to assume that is what we're getting. 

1) Wait till it's released, maybe try to look at some leaked information. It releases in 5 months.
2) Someone (or better yet a few someones) who knows a lot about engine and programming get it and take a thorough look at the guts.
3) Assess the benefits and drawbacks
Currently - possible drawbacks: the time and work conversion would take, possible issues with model shaders and graphic FX (ashstorms).
Benefits - nobody should complain about an outdated engine anymore, stability, 64 bit and some eyecandy without ENB required).
4) Present all that data to the team in a meeting and make a collective decision, explore all possibilities (two versions, remastered and lite? Depends on the workload, how engines interact with each other and how hard mods are to port over.)

So up until probably late November or early December any discussions about this are pretty much futile, with the exception of leaked info.

Well if it's a FO4 engine fork, we're still good to go with custom creatures. Shaders upgrade can be done in batch using nifskope, i'm unsure about our custom UI and scripting

Don't forget the ability to upload on Bethesda.net, to share on all 3 platforms if size limit will be solved with MS (it is 2GB on XBox for all mods combined atm).

Consoles don't allow compression if I'm correct, so porting Skywind to consoles wouldn't be impossible? All the meshes, textures, models etc uncompressed wouldn't they require too much space?

Either way, it would be pretty difficult to own a legal copy of Morrowind on a PS4 or Xbox One.

Does anyone have the Adoran Nif Converter? I really need it to Convert Hammerfell: TEG to Skyrim since the Special Edition is coming out

If it is a port over to the Fallout 4 engine, and Bethesda makes it possible to use original scripts, animations and whatnot, I sincerely hope it's possible to quickly convert existing mods for the Remaster - Skywind included. The newer engine might have many of the same limitations as the older one, but it certainly is a bit more stable, efficient, and it just plain looks better.

But.. Is it the same engine (I mean the same update for the engine, I know both games different updates of the same engine)? From what I read from the day FO4 was announced the first thing they did developing FO4 was porting Skyrim to the new consoles, and then they updated the engine and from there they made FO4. Mine is just a speculation, but I don't think is the same update of the engine FO4 is on. I think it is an updated version of Skyrim but not that updated as FO4, so many of the limitations are hopefully gone, but substantially it is still the same engine and all the stuff (animations and scripts) still works the same way.

I'm not sure we've been modding Fallout 4 long enough to really feel out the limitations. I just mean what limits there are will be certainly inherent of the older engine. Like a prehistoric penguin to a modern and evolved penguin, neither can fly.

 

Let's just agree that an engine that makes use of DirectX 11 is better than one that only uses 9.

 

Edit: Bethesda has already confirmed that all current Skyrim mods will work out of the box

Mods requiring SKSE however will probably need to wait until that supports the Special Edition.

Since it has been confirmed that it will be in 64bit, how will this impact future development for both Skywind and Skyblivion? I know it would defiantly be beneficial to change everything over to the updated engine when it comes out but I'm sure it will be tasking too. In the long run it would be worth it though I think. Game would be more stable plus over it would make it possible to have the ability to visit all 3 locations at once from 1 game with less issues. And run mods with the game too.

I believe Bethesda has moved everything over to the new 64 Bit engine to revamp the meshes, textures, FX, and landscaping. Once Skyrim SE comes out (Considering people who own Skyrim and all DLCs on PC will get free) it is IMPERATIVE that Skywind ALSO gets moved over to the new engine.
