Gnisis Asset Requests

Submitted by iceflame542 on

This thread pertains to all new assets for building the town of Gnisis. Having discussed some plans with Ravanna, there are goals set in motion to build custom assets for the Gnisis eggmine and other features of the town. I will post some refrences to organize for each of the assets needed.

The Kwama Eggmine

The shape of the Kwama eggmine in Gnisis is quite different from the formation of the surrounding cliffs, as it was essentially formed by acidic weathering from Kwama spit. Thus, the coloration and shape reflect a dissolution effect on rock, likely karst. Karstic formations vary significantly and can create some very interesting shapes.

So there are plenty of different procceses that can occur for karstic weathering here, so a mix can create something that really stands out, based on the concept art but with some of the above details added. Essentially, the shape of the concept (where scaffolding can be set up), with karstic stone in the color of the concept.

Interior:

Because of the presence of holes formed from the weathering process as seen in the concept, this would be a great way to let some light in and add some nice effects. A good reference for the shape and layout would be the Flood hives in Halo (but without the flood biomass as a structure, it would be made of karstic stone instead):

Judging by the shape of the outside, there is potential for some cavernous areas like in that flood hive reference, where kwama eggs can be set up, and some egg-miner's shacks and scaffolding above. More narrow tunnels and passageways can link these caverns and open up portions still being dug by Kwama.

While not karst itself, karstic cave systems are often host to stalagmites and stalactites:

A good example of this would be found in the Marble Arch Caves:

Farmland

The concept art also identified some patches of farmland on the southwestern hills. The aim here is for groups of Mucksponge paddies, resting on the hill with wooden supports like this:

However, like a rice paddy, the farm plots on top would be slightly flooded. As seen in the early versions of the mucksponge farms, these would contain sulfuric water.

The asset itself would need wooden supports and a slightly lowered plot of farmland for it to be flooded in the CK. If it could take the shape of the concept art plots (the green roughly rectangular spots on the hill), that would be great.

Velothi Structures The focal element of Gnisis is the temple, built in Velothi style before any of the Redoran buildings. Thus, the temple would be in the Velothi tileset and not the Redoran one (the vanilla style temple). The concept art also appears to include other Velothi structures surrounding the temple that did not make it into the game. If included, these may use the Velothi buildings from vanilla/Vivec to save work, but the town could benefit from some of the unique ones seen in the concept.

This picture also includes a model that was made but never included in the basegame: a prayer tower. Adorned with Temple banners and text, the prayer tower appears to rest on some kind of boulder-like structure. There isn't much information about it, but it could be a nice touch to really add to the atmosphere by having Dunmeri prayer leaders standing on the minaret, reciting temple doctrine to be responded to by followers in prayer.

The Quarry Right now the Clay quarry is using placeholder rocks that have the stepped look but don't really work well enough without a specialized mesh. The concept art for Gnisis is a good reference for this.

I see the potential for large spacious caverns, with multiple pinpricks of light. Maybe even levels of tunnels...
