An idea after skywind is done

Submitted by SlindyInfinity… on
So since I see you're revamping older elder scrolls games. How about making a better arena. I've had alot of ideas about this and my friends thought it was great.

I believe that would be impossible with Skyrim's engine, the best you could do is a more linear approach which only takes you to the key locations.

yup, considering the design aspects of the old games, making them extremely large, partially random, worlds.

edit: facts!

"The game utilizes randomly generated content to generate a massive world (around 6 million square kilometers), without much effort on the developers' part. The world has hundreds of towns made with actual design, rather than being random, containing businesses with random names (Examples being "Gold Sword" "Silver Gauntlet" etc.) As well as several hundred dungeons, along with 17 specially designed dungeons that were part of the game's main quest." - Elder Scrolls Wikia

A game of this size would be too massive of an undertaking, especially considering the new resources that would have to be created.

We get it, you really enjoy TES a lot and want more. Who doesn't? But supposing Skywind releases in early 2016 with absolutely no problems or bugs and the core members of the team feel like they can comfortably leave the project behind forever; do you think it's a tad bit unreasonable to say to them, "Hey guys, you just put your whole heart and soul into this 5-year project, but me and my friends think you should do it again...but this time...duh duh duh...ARENA! It will be awesome, more TES is always awesome!"

Just understand that they get this all the time, usually from people who barely have a notional concept of the work involved when creating a full-game's worth of dialogue, scripting, functional worldspaces, and the sheer man-hours that rival many modern companies who are actually paid for their time.

But hey, I'm not trying to insult you, just help you understand what you are asking for...but you, sir, are in luck. Because a Daggerfall port to the Unity engine was just released! You can download it now and play around with it. Here ya go: dfworkshop.net.

It's not a brand new remastered version, but there is a fairly active forum where people will sometimes post mods for it and kick around ideas about how to modernize the game a bit more. The Unity Engine has a decent set of API's that a young guy like yourself can use to really whet your appetite. So if you're feeling ambitious enough then you should really just dive into it with all those ideas you came up with. There is enough online documentation for you to study, create some simple examples for yourself, figure out where your strengths/interests are, and then find some people to team up with and bring Daggerfall to 2016! I look forward to it :)
