Geography, Architecture and "reasonable" placement

Submitted by VincentNZ on

So I played Morrowind twelve to thirteen years ago and it was a game that impressed and influenced me in a way that was new to me, likely becasuse of the sandbox experience. However some things partially killed off my immersion, and I would summarise them under what I call reasonable world-building.

The most obvious thing that falls in this category is that interiors usually were bigger than the outside, basically like the Doctor Who Tardis. That bothered me a fair bit.

Also, and this actually annoyed me the most in this game, often, buildings that filled a certain role like Forts, city walls, strongholds, basically every building with a defensive function, would have never worked. Fort Moonmoth I believe had no gates if I recall correctly, as an example, or at one point you could just hop over the walls because the fort was built to close to a hill. The same with the city walls of Balmora. I mean it is a nice scenery with the river flowing through but the walls have no value and neither have the watchtowers.

Another thing that touches this are the dungeons. They all were built out of the same assets and were basically long tunnels, with only few exceptions, Oblivion had it way worse though. So whether one was in a dwemer city or a vampire cave it all boiled down to the same layout.

So I wonder if these issues will be existant in Skywind as well. Will you portray Morrowind as accurately as you can or will you take liberties to make it more appealing and immersive in the same way as Skyrim did?

And another question, I guess you will use the Skyrim mechanics like the quest tracker and the dialogue system. For the first, can the player turn it off? As for the dialogue system, will it work in the same way as Skyrim but with all the Morrowind answers? Morrowind offered a whole bunch of info and often repetitive questions/answers, while skyrim simplified the dialogue system quite a bit. In my book the two different system do not synergize well, do you guys have a final take on this?

Anyway I've been lurking here for two years and wanted top express my gratitude for the effort that you guys undertake. I am looking forward to the beta and release of this huge project and it's further progress.
