"Don't run about like that... have you no sense of decency ?" (found reason)

Submitted by digitalparanoid on

Hi,

I'm back in oblivion after a few years off. [External image]  Of course, Morroblivion was a MUST-have when it comes to mods and your work is really impressive. Thanks for everything !

I have a problem and someone told me this looked like a message from morrowind, so maybe it's a bug from morroblivion. I haven't found anything in the bug tracker searching for "decency" and haven't seen anything on the forum either (sorry if it's already been listed)

I have started a new game, in the imperial city cell, as usual. A few hours later, in the Imperial City, some merchants won't accept speak to me, telling me "Don't run about like that... have you no sense of decency ?" (no voice). It happened with Othrelos and Claudette Perrick at the Gilded Carafe and at least another merchant in the market district.

I don't know if that's a bug, I'll try some charm spell next time I play. It seems also to be added by a mod since there's no voice for this (I'm using elys universal silent voice too, just put a longer mp3)

here's the list of mods I use. (I'm using morroblivion 026)

Well for one thing, Morrowind_ob.esm should be loaded right after Oblivion.esm ... though I dont know if thats causing your problem.

That greeting is the default greeting in Morrowind if you don't have any clothes on.

The logic (conditions) on that greeting may be messed up and no one noticed it, OR you are running around naked.  Since it's only with some NPCs and not all of them, it is probably an issue with the conditions on that topic.

I had something like that in mind due to the dialog...

It's seems you're right from my tests.

When you're fully naked => they don't like it and scream at you

When you have the slightest apparel on you (even just a ring) => ok

However apparently for some clothes it doesn't follow this rule.

naked + fur boots => ok

naked + Sack clothes sandals => scream at you

There's certainly a problem around this, although not very important one, considering I'm not usually running around naked (I mromise !) except when I unadvertently remove all my armor.

Thanks for the help !

edit: do you want me to raise a bug (very low priority) ?

I think the programming for this adds the value of your equipped items and compares the value to zero.

That's just kind of how it is.

EDIT: the conditions should be edited though so only morrowind characters give the greeting.

Not that anyone cares, but the original dialog was "Someone with your good looks needs more clothing". It's a part of Morrowind.

My opinion is that changing the wording to a British or Australian equivilent is incorrect and should be fixed.

"Someone with your good looks needs more clothing" was spoken (an .mp3) but the actual text you got was "Cover yourself! Are you mad? Have you no decency?" - I just confirmed this using original vanilla morrowind... There are other .mp3s too - "You look ridiculous" and "Don't walk around like that" and "I am not amused" etc.

In any case, the topic is located in quest "MorroDefaultQuest", under the topic, "GREETING".  The particular info is "Don't run about like that! Have you no sense of decency?"  The ONLY condition for this dialogue is target -> GetClothingValue == 0.00.

I have changed the text to the correct "Cover yourself! Are you mad? Have you no decency?"and added a condition for GetInFaction 0factMorrowind == 1 so only morrowind characters will say this...

This is probably important to fix, since there is no .mp3 for it and it shouldn't be showing up in Oblivion:

This fix is being included in the next release v027.

Great ! thanks for the fix.

I found one place were this bug was really annoying (should be fixed with this change)

with v026, when you complete and exit the dreamworld (quete Through A Nightmare, Darkly), once you wake up, Henantier will speak to you automatically and since you are naked, you will enter an infinite loop of "don't around like this...", exiting dialog mode, entering dialog mode, "don't around like this...", etc.. with no way of breaking out.

workaround with v026: immediately when waking up, open your inventory and put on some clothes or armor, don't let Henantier speak to you.

should be fixed in v027 due to the condition GetInFaction 0factMorrowind == 1 described by Thermador

thanks !

Sorry to bring this topic up from the dead, but the line "Cover yourself! Are you mad? Have you no decency?" does appear at every single person in Cyrodiil even at version 037, and the message does appear even when you use clothing like "Dark Brotherhood" or "Arena Raiments" which have no value, so my opinion is that this dialogue should be deleted completely from Master, but thats just my opinion. I will try to make a mod/fix that erases this line completely or uses better dialogue activator.

Well, the only place where it causes much problems is the Hernantier case (that I made a seperate thread about, not being able to find this one), you can get out of it by opening the console, selecting him and using the kill and resurrect command so it's not really gamebreaking (might have to switch back and forth a couple of times, the selection can be a bit tricky).

Unless your planning on really fixing it (leaving the dialog intact for Morrowind characters) I would'nt bother, anyone who uses the search function should come across this and mine, which have fixes that don't require the use of a mod.

Fixing it while leaving the Morrowind characters intact though could be a good fix for this for the Morroblivion project itself.

My solution for this is add another detector which would detect armor rating or something similar before activating the "Nudity" dialogue.  Also its immersion breaking to be an badass assassin of Dark Brotherhood when everyone complains about me that im not wearing any clothes, even though im wearing Dark Brotherhood raiments. Also it is not a good fix if you must use console command to "fix" or complete a quests. Allthough i immediatly run to a problem when i tryed to merge "Fix Attempt.esp" to Morrowind_Ob.esm with Tes4gecko, gecko reports several errors within Morrowind_ob.esm and cancels the process. Is there any other way to merge plugins?(New activators didnt do anything when using "Fix Attempt".esp, but i thought that merging that esp to master could do the trick)

First check and make sure that my fix is still incorporated in the main Morroblivion Mod.  It sounds like the "GetInFaction 0factMorrowind == 1" has been removed.

David and I talked about this, and I am not 100% sure he incorporated this fix into the final ESM, as he wanted to have this dialogue occurr in Oblivion's worldspace as well as in Morrowind.

Download my mod from above and test - if that fixes the problem, then there you go.

That "GetInFaction 0factMorrowind == 1" is added to that dialogue in Morrowind_Ob.esm, but seems to have no effect in game.

When talking about variations of the line: I figured they were based on your personality. A low personality player is just screamed at, while a high personality / famous person is told that they're too good looking to be naked.

Armor rating would be a great way to run a decency check...

EDIT:

(Amor rating was Seferoth's idea, I should have noted that origionally)

Iceberg, you have the right idea. Conditions based on disposition need to be set so that they can scream at you if they have low disposition, or comment politely if they have high disposition. You also might have a good idea about using armor rating instead. Thermador, I'm with you man. Under the conditions you set, no Oblivion NPC should be saying that. Aside from Seferoth, can anyone else confirm this bug? Also, how many of you have your characters running around actually naked?

Here is a patch that adds the following conditions to this topic, all with AND operators:

GetArmorRating == 0

GetGlobalValue PlayerInMorrowind == 1

GetPlayerInSEWorld == 0; run on target

IsPlayerInJail == 0; run on target

IsPCSleeping == 0; run on target

Let me know if that works or something; I am not having this problem.

The fix above did not work in my game. I even tryed my game without any other mods then Morroblivion and its required mods and i still do get that dialogue "bug". I even installed latest version of Morrowind_Ob.esm a couple of times to make sure that it wasnt corrupted at some point. I thank you for trying to help with this problem, but im afraid the reason why the dialogue appears go much deeper. I also have that very annoying "Skaal Honor Guard" bug, the bug makes Skaal Honor Guard to spawn next to me every single time i pay my fine or go to jail. *Sigh*

AH HA!!!!

I know what happened and I know who's responsible for borking it all up too... robertneville777 and/or someone working on his voiced greetings project created a duplicate "cover yourself" topic... when that was merged in... everything went to &&&&

I will try and make a fix for this tomorrow but it is going to be complicated...

Thermador, that's not possible, as I haven't even submitted my mod in to the forums or to David. You're kidding me right?

It's really possible that anyone who submitted a mod to David to be merged could have accidently done this...

Well then it's not under my project.

robertneville777, I apologize, I had assumed that David had merged part of your project in.  But there are two topics with the same text, and different conditions.  The "new" one, or duplicate, looks like someone was planning on setting up voiced greetings (that would be the only way to explain the way it is set up I think).

Anyway, here is a new one, same as above, that adds those conditions AND deletes the dupe.  I created a new character, went and got the arena heavy raiment and then tested this in morrowind and cyrodill.  It works for me.

Awesome Thermador, good to hear.

If a lot of people like having their players run around nude, such as Steph, I could bring those voices back, including the right conditions.

Please do!

Seeing the enormous cult following of being able to run around nude, I am considering doing some quests nude with my Kahjit. (To fit in with the group). Then again, does it count if you're covered in fur?

lol jk.

Actually though, I think the bug is stemming from people who actually ARE wearing clothes that are being accused of being naked. (Man is that weird.....)

Thank you for the fix. It really makes difference in my game. I dont usually run naked, but i do use mods and items that have no value, and therefore everyone keeped telling me that im naked. Only one super annoying bug left in my game. I might just delete every single Skaal Honor Guard from Morrowind_Ob.esm, that should fix that spawn bug! Muahahahha! Anyway, again thanks for fixing this.

Status set to fixed, sent a PM to David so that he can add this fix to version 038
