Crash with steam install

Submitted by spidarmen on

Hello, I just followed the installation videos, but I am crashing as soon as the game begins loading just after the Bethesda logo.

I assume it has to do with the load order, but I am unable to set the load order in wyre bash, when I press control up, nothing changes.  Is there any other method of setting the order?

I got the load order sorted, but am still crashing.  obse loader log tells me:

"

crc = A2408F04

You are trying to use a Steam version of Oblivion. Steam users should launch the game through Steam, not by running obse_loader.exe. If OBSE fails to load, go to Steam > Settings > In Game and check the box marked "Enable Steam community in game". Please see the instructions in obse_readme.txt for more information."

But that does not solve the problem, it will crash with or without it.

Win7 x64, Steam(crashes with or without overlay enabled), Morroblivion v30, all files patched and up to date.

 It also crashes with no mods selected, only the oblivion esm.

Did you install oblivion in c:\program files\

That would fit the symptoms you are having - i.e. "it also crashes with no mods selected"

No, I have my steam library on a seperate HDD. I am moveing the installation now. I hope that will fix it, I've been waiting for a mod like this since oblivion was releaed.

I was having the same problem last night and I got it working by removing LandTexturesWithGrassPlusLOD.esp mod that was part of Eloth's Visual Overhaul. I'm new to Oblivion modding myself, so I have no idea why this works or what the problem with that mod is. It's not the best solution, but it might get you rolling. The new textures look freaking amazing with or without it though.
