Morroblivion: Not really Morrowind at all

Submitted by Drainedsoul on

Just installed Morroblivion, been playing for 15 minutes.

In that time I've managed to be unable to sell "stolen" items to a vendor, and tried to kill two "essential" NPCs.

Which is kind of weird because I don't remember those "features" being in Morrowind.

True you could do that in TES3, but is that what really made Morrowind, Morrowind?

I'm not sure if these are limitations of the Oblivion's game engine, but if it's possible, you could look into fixing these problems.

Edit: That's how I started here. Without the TES3 voices, it didn't really feel like Morrowind to me. So I fixed the problem and put the original voices into Morroblivion. A lot of other team members here have undergone the same thing, and that's how Morroblivion gets better and better.

Yes.  The laissez-faire sandbox of Morrowind definitely made Morrowind what it was.

Hell, I feel as though Morrowind's integrity is severely undermined by the lack of Jump, Levitate, and Swift Swim, and spent all day Googling at work to see if they'd be implemented in Morroblivion since they were neutered for the hardware needs of the consoles in Oblivion.

Drainedsoul,

Morroblivion is not intended to be exactly the same as Morrowind,it is just a combined effort by imo a most talented group of guys to get morrowind into the TES4 engine,in effect making it possible to play morrowind as part of oblivion.

I started my character in oblivion, then jumped to morrowind to play through the main quest [using TES4 logic] and it`s great for me as I can then continue the game in oblivion.:)

I have Morrowind installed, but it seems out of date to me after using morroblivion, but that`s just my 2 cents I quess.

And imo morroblivion will have all and more of the morrowind stuff,it just takes time and lots of patience I quess.

There is no question. If you want "Morrowind" then go play Morrowind. The game is Oblivion, not Morrowind, and there are things we simply cannot do. If you want to be able to explore Morrowind and Cyrodiil with the same character, move back and forth between the two, then that's what Morroblivion is, and that's why I am here and spent a year working on it. Everything you mention that makes Morrowind truly "Morrowind" to you is your personal taste. There is no right or wrong answer to that. I disagree with your observations. I see many shortcomings in Morrowind that have been addressed or partially addressed in Morroblivion. But again, that is personal taste.

If "gameplay depth" is a shortcoming then yes.

I knew I shouldn't have said anything. Nothing positive or constructive can come of this discussion. It is a matter of personal taste. Locking this topic.
