Morrowind Patch Project fixes? Quest doors locked/ markers not right

Submitted by Dark Rider on

3 issues here. I'm having to consult walkthroughs because some things aren't quite right and I don't remember if they are supposed to be that way or if the game is bugged. On the first fighters guild quest to extermate some rats, Drarayne Thelas's door is locked.. I cant talk to her about the quest. What gives with the locked door?

The walkthrough says nothing about a locked door. It does mention a bug in the quest that makes it impossible to complete another guest. This is fixed by the Morrowind Patch Project. Does Morroblivion employ these bug fixes for it's game or are all those bugs still in the game?

Lastly, it seems many of the map markers are really messed up. For instance on a quest to check out the door that appeared oin Niben Bay the marker for it is next to Balmora near a shrine.. not near any bay at all. If you look at the map, and point in the direction of the marker, it doesn't line up with where the marker is on your mini compas.

I'm using the standard map that came with the game.. I know there are other better maps.. would one of these make a difference? Is there another way to fix this issue? I have no idea where Niben Bay is and can't find it on the map to find this door. I followed this marker and wound up having to fight some tough ( for a beginner character) dredric dudes in the shrine. Missing quest markers by design i can understand but i think this is an error of some sort.

Oh yeah.. another issue I forgot about. Items turning into stolen items on a whim. I had some iron armor got from looting bandits in a cave. Sold some to the pawnbroker at Seyda Neen but when I got to Balmora and looked at my inventory, they all had red hands. As well as the tax report I found on the dead tax collectors body. I KNOW that wasn't a stolen item before.

Well Drarayne Thelas' door will only be unlocked at certain times, wait for an hour then try and repeat until you get the right time, i can't remember the exact times for it though. The map isn't perfect, because the source for the map was a scan and thus it is as good as it's going to get and map markers will only point you in the general direction not to an exact point like in Cyrodiil. Now the stolen item thing i can't vouch for because it's never happened to me.

Thanks for the answer. I did wait a few times at her door but I guess I just didn't get the right time.

It's funny though - some map markers are right spot on - at least in the local map and compared to the compas. The ones that do work for the world map get very close. This map marker (A Door in Niben Bay quest))  however, seems miles away from where it should be, not even pointing in the general direction.

Probably because they are not for Morrowind but are Oblivion quests, the niben bay door quest is the start of The Shivering Isles expansion for Oblivion. ;)

Well, that would be a good reason. They loaded at startup and since Shivering Isles are required to make this Morroblivion mod work, them showing up in Morrowind is a Big misleading bug. The devs need to find a way to seperate these quests and keep them from interfering with the Morrowind aspect of the game.

Mmmm.... you do have a point, i think it's only really the niben bay one that does that though (can't remember any others), i'll have a look into it.

Dark Rider,

One thing to remember is that morroblivion is not a total convertion,it is just another mod for Oblivion, and therefore is going to get all the Oblivion main game messages that flash up for the DLC content added.

Even though you are in the morrowind world, you are still technically playing the Oblivion game.

Drarayne Thelas's door is locked because in the Oblivion game engine shops and houses lock at night because the NPCs sleep, sometimes I quess it gets out of sync though as some doors remain locked even in the daytime.

Unlocking spells are your friend. They will never hurt you or threaten to stab you, and in fact cannot speak. *hugs a scroll of Ondusi's Open Door*.

Nirnroot quest thingy is another that has a really odd quest marker. For some reason it says to go north of Fort Moonmoth just southwest of a Daedric shrine in the middle of a foyada. The annoying part is that there's a Nirnroot right underneath the Seyda Neen dock, meaning if you're like me and are OCD about ingredients (and either happen to see it in third person or fall off the dock like I did), you end up getting a quest with a broken marker literally before you finish character creation. I'll check later if the Nirnroot is droppable. If it isn't, that's even more annoying since it actually weighs .2.
