Skywind is a remake of Morrowind in the Skyrim game. It is a large mod that really plays like an entirely new game. As such it is a very large download at about 1.5GB. It has several plugins (a master file and patch) and all the graphics and sounds to make up the world of Morrowind. Skywind is in an Alpha state, meaning you can move around the world, interact with a few things, but the full content of questing, gameplay and many other various elements are not part of the game yet. When you can finish the main quest line with much of the game elements in use, we will update the status of Skywind to Beta.
Because we are introducing expanding content and code, bugs will occur between releases. You are as much our testers as anyone, so please report anything but be specific, otherwise your posts will be ignored.
You of course need Skyrim to play, as well as Morrowind GOTY (or Morrowind plus the Tribunal and Bloodmoon expansions). These can be installed in any location of your choice. The reason for requiring the original Morrowind game is for intellectual property reasons. No files are used or copied from the original Morrowind game.
You need to download the Skywind Installer here.
This contains the plugins files, but none of the graphics and sound. Once downloaded, you will see a program called Skyrim.exe, please double click it to start the installer. It will either find your Morrowind and Skyrim installation directories, or prompt you to change to the folders where you have installed them. This will then put the plugins (master and patch), graphics and sound files into the Skyrim folder you select.
Downloading Skywind graphics and sound can be done in several different ways;
1. Download the complete package of graphics and sound. Please click here for the latest release for 0.6.0
2. If you have limited internet capacity you can load some individual packages that will get most of the game going, but you will miss out on some features. You will download the Skywind Installer separately along with the necessary graphics and sound. Please go to this thread for more instructions on these individual downloads.
3. Finally for our users who have already downloaded the Skywind 0.5.0 version, you will be able to download a smaller update package instead. You will also need to download the Skywind Installer to get the latest master. Please click here for the updating package.
If you have downloaded Skywind before but have not downloaded version 0.5.0 or later you will need to get the latest version, as almost every element has changed since then.
As updates happen over the course of the project we will have patches that you can download and install in sequence as they become available. Our complete package will be updated to include these updates, but for most users because it is such a large download, the patches will be more desirable. These patches will be based lined from Skywind 0.6.0 onwards. They will include the change log of what has been added or changed.
Once you have installed Skywind, please make sure that you select Skywind.esm and Skyrim – Patch.esp in the Data Files menu option in your game launcher SkyrimLauncher.exe. If you unsure what this is and have not installed another mod before then please check the FAQ here for more details.
If you want to start with a new character then you will be given the option of starting in Morrowind or Skyrim, with character generation and the beginning of the main quest.
There are currently no in game features to move you into the world of Morrowind if you want to use your existing Skyrim character, you will need to use the command console to load up this world. This can be done by pressing the tilde key on your keyboard in game. This is the ~ key usually up on the top left of your keyboard. Then type in COW WRLDMORROWIND -4,-18 which will transport you to a town called Seyda Neen.
That’s it! Have fun.
