If you have a spare hard drive, even if it's like 20gb, you can install Windows with your other hard drive still installed, you may be able to recover the files. Either that or you may be able to turn your non-working hard drive into an external USB hard drive, but it will cost you a little bit.
This has taught me to be more careful. I am currently backing up 30gigs worth of skywind work.
DId u finish the wee baskets for Meh? :P
We'll keep a light on for u
Well, if you have another hard drive, you can make that hard drive your boot hard drive, install windows on it and use that. Then you can see if you can access your other hard drive, if not, google "the hard drive freezer method", and if it works, back up everything that is super important asap, because it won't last.
That's exactly what I said, Mehh... Except for the freezer part.
missing you already, babe!
Srsly, get back here. ;)
Well, if you have a friend or source that's willing to let you, you could get an Ubuntu cd image and use the "Live CD" function to transfer files from the HDD to a flash drive, if at all possible to access said (hopefullynotcompletely)dead HDD.
At least, that's what I do when I have a virus is back up all of the files I care about through a live cd to my second hard drive and reformat the main. I would just make Linux my base OS, but the incompatibility with everything I've purchased on Steam drives me away.
Good news I got my computer up and running! I haven't tried getting files from the drive yet but I will keep ya'll posted. If I can salvage files then great. If not than its a blank slate.
