Escalated prices of items??

Submitted by anithinks on

Not sure if this is a Morroblivion problem, but I am seeing prices of enchanted items  are exponentially high. E.g. Fargoth's ring, found in the barrel of the Excise office, has a value of 300030 septims in my game!!

I understand that LAME might be responsible for some of these changes, as Enhanced Economy has a section where it talks about the feature of repricing of magical items, and how LAME is responsible for escalated value. I tried using Enhanced Economy's feature, but it does not seem to affect the prices.

Curious to know if some of you are using Morroblivion with LAME, and what are you seeing re: the values of magical items.

Yeah, the game calculates prices of enchanted items automatically based on base item value and a 'Constant effect barter factor' setting in a magic effect. That is really unfortunate in case of Morroblivion items, which were supposed to be cheap.

And LAME makes it even worse by increasing 'barter factor' of almost all effects. For example, for 'Restore Health' which Fargoth's Ring has, it boosts this value to 100000, so I guess the price you posted was actually calculated correctly. The thing is, game considers this item to be constant effect, but it really isn't.

I think enchanted item repricing needs to be activated in EE's ini file. What are your settings in 'Settings to control value of enchanted items' ini section are?

Qwertyasdfgh: thanks for replying and confirming what I thought to be the root cause. I tried using the following values in Enhanced Economy, but it seemed to have no effect at all:

; ================== Settings to control value of enchanted items =====================

; Enables or disables adjustment of barter values for enhanted non-weapon items
set tnoEE.adjustMagicValue to 1

; Set whether value of items with constant magic effects are calculated from vanilla cost (0), from the current, modded values in your game (1), or the lowest of the two (2)
set tnoEE.baseMagicValue to 0

; Set exponent used to in a magicValue^exp calculation. 1 means no exponential change in value.
set tnoEE.magicEffectPow to 0.5

; Set the multiplyer for value from constant magic effects
set tnoEE.magicEffectMult to 0.5

I ended up uninstalling LAME, and the value of the ring drops down to 30 septims! I guess I will have to just play with SM in this playthrough.

While I have your attention, I am curious on another aspect on general gameplay in Morrowind (and consequently Morroblivion).

1) In Oblivion, I used to constantly dungeon dive randomly in the many forts/ayleid ruins etc. without having any specific quest that asked me to visit that dungeon. Can I do the same in Morrowind, without the fear of breaking a quest?

2) What leveling mod do you use - Oblivion XP, nGCD, or others?

Of course. In fact, Morrowind has much more unique items just hidden in dungeons, compared to Oblivion, where it's mostly random loot.

Personally I don't use any. Morroblivion should be compatible with all of them. Further compatibility with Oblivion XP is in development and will be included in the next release.
