Constant CTDs in specific locations

Submitted by Yali on
I'm starting a new thread for this because I think it warrants attention. Since I first converted Morrowind with the esp converter (no mod yet), I've been getting very specific crashes to desktop. These are as follows: Entering or leaving the boat from Anvil. Any Silt Strider dock. Crossing into the Ascadian Isles from Seyda Neen - specifically right past the first intersection going south. Entering Hla Oad - specifically when crossing the path of the first shack from the south end. Entering Suran from the Silt Strider dock. I noticed that upon re-loading my last save from Suran - I was trapped in some kind of sky box. When re-visiting Hla Oad, I spotted a purple hovering object that radiated beams. What I assumed this must be is a missing or broken sound file. I then searched all around for any sound that could have screwed up in the conversion, but I found nothing except Jetson's Doorbell, which I replaced, but did absolutely nothing to remedy the problem. Any thoughts?

Obviously, something is corrupt, or maybe more than one thing. Corrupt Meshes can cause CTD's. The Converter Will Not Overwrite Anything. And, that is probably not clear. Converting over and over again will not actually fix anything unless you clear the bad files first. To do this you need to get Tes4Files from Nexus, or just look through your data folder and delete files by hand. Uninstall Morroblivion, and then convert again. The converter makes an extensive log as it goes. Open this with a text editor like Notepad or Wordpad, and search for "Error" or "Exception" or, since Galadrielle is French, whatever the French equivalent of these words are. I presume you have tried using the OMOD. Others have solved similar problems by overwriting their conversion with the files in the OMOD.

I tried that, and I still got CTDs in the same spots. Right now I'm simply using the OMOD files with added files from my last conversion which i exported, as well as the current .esp. However, everything is now purple. Do I have to activate the OMOD (which would take an hour considering all the popus)? Or should I re-convert and choose "overwrite files" in Morroblivion GUI?

As far as I know textures do not cause CTD's, so the problem is meshes. So, whatever would be easiest to restore the textures is OK. If you did an uninstall with Tes4files, then the textures are going to be in a folder. Just recopy them all back to your data folder.

missing textures and normal maps cause CTD's, atleast thats happened to me.

Or maybe you just need the latest version of morroblivion.obsm becasue just plain morroblivion the default one is very glitched.
