Children

Submitted by Cloud2405 on

Hello everyone,

one thing I don't like in Skyrim is that there are only human children. Have you ever think about it, to make children model for all races in Skywind?

Pleaase think about it ^^

These are some little ideas :-)

Dunmer Children: Playing on the streets of the villages, go to school in the temples, lern spells in the telvanni towers.

Khajiit and Argonians: Children are working on the farms in the mines too (Perhaps they work in lower tunnels like the children in the industrial era), they are servants for their owners (For example you come into a house and the owner orders this servant to bring you something to drink).

Orcs: Some of the Adventurers could have little orc trainees.

What do you think? This would be a chance for more imersive gameplay. It could be implemented like the scences you discussed after the game was finished

There aren't children in Skywind.

That's a pitty, but still better then having children for just one race :-)

Bethesda cannot in sexual reproduction.

We discussed this is chat a while ago.

Basically, we'd love to add children (at least those included in the chat, haha). However, the main race of morrowind is dunmer, and there's currently no children model for dunmer. Personally, I feel that we should wait to add children until we got a model for this race, as most of the kids should be dunmer; however it may be easy to use some intern race (Like the absolutely horrible dunmer children mod on the nexus, which is not something I'd like to use) and switch them out for a better model. I don't know how easy that would be though.

Perhaps you can put it on your nice-to-have-list ^^ You have so talented modelers in your team perhaps they can handle this after finishing the main game

Man, is THIS an old topic of discussion. I remember it from when I first joined the forum. xD

Also: dunmer chicken. That is all.

I really hate the annoying 12 year olds in Skyrim who all look identical and have the same voice. If we decided to put children in Skyrim we'd need to have 3 separate ages, as in like 8, 11, 14 and they'd need to be voiced properly. (and there'd need to be more than one race, Dunmer, Imperial, Nord, Khajiit and Argonian would be prominant and therefor done first.

Did xvision make some altmer children or i am wrong? Or something like RCOTS?
I cannot get in on nexus, but google give me some screens with mer children.
However they are freaky, but i think neandertal's or Homo ergaster children was freaky too.

I presume community can make them better (proportions of head not good).

Omg... I'm blind...

By the Three! Also the third picture appears to be a child going through an emo stage.

I have a feeling those models were made for older, less reputable members of society, if you know what I mean...

Have no idea, on what phrasing you want to hint me, but obvious it's unhealthy passion of the kids. Don't know what is gender and age author.

Yes, more realistic children models - please!  If this were done, I'd be all for adding some children to the mod - especially the different age ranges.  I'm sure some people on here have access to real kids and teenagers for the voices - just a matter of good character development, scripts, and placement.

We may need to invent some new characters to serve as their parents.  As such, it might be a good idea to prepare for this before the maps are finished, to include some houses/rooms for the children to stay?

> anime culture
= Now in 3d, i see. Then we need make children just fat and pig-eyed to add realism.

Actually, why in skyrim there is no fat persons? It's really cold place.

the are children/ non adults in fallout 3 lamp light and big town are a good exampel of that the kinda went a step back whit skyrim but it wasnt importend for the story unlike fallout where u grow up (always find it funny to give the teenagers of bigtown different kinds of power armor that shrink to there size when te put it on[External image])

the orc kid looks funny can see hime beeing the tuff guy trying to kill you whit a toy sword if the al didnt look like littels  girls whit al the same perfect face

Was on the fence on whether to post this or not, but eh. This has all the child races all set up and they don't screw with the facegen for adults like some other ones... I think haven't actually tested it. I would but I'm currently 100 hours into a play though and want to finish it as soon as possible so I can get back to work, and I really don't' want to the save to corrupt on me like every other time I've tried to do an extended play though. There was another one, but I don't' think he did the elf races or something like that I can't remember. http://www.loverslab.com/topic/22395-wip-skykids-child-races-other-technical-goodies-vanilladlc-npc-replacer-updated21714/

do u have a screenshot from a dark elf child ore could u make 1 ?

I don't see how having NPC children would be in any way detrimental to immersion in Morrowind. In fact, children being completely missing would be much more jarring. Yes the children in Skyrim were all little pricks, but that was in large part due to their dialog and writing. Absolutely nothing forces us to make Dunmer children as equally douchy. I also think there's some good potential for the main quest. Imagine Dunmer children being subjugated to the mind sickness, and praising Lord Dagoth to their terrified parents.

Don't be too quick to judge an idea based on a couple things that Bethesda could've done better.

ho are u talking to ?

It's just well... children suck...

Karma: -3 (3 votes)

*Children suck because Bethesda didn't bother to make them unique.

Personally I would like to see children in the game because it brings the game a little more closer to reality even though it is supposed to be a fantasy. I think that if we are trying to modernize the game, it would make sense to put them in, at least in a few locations. You should remember that they didn't have the technology to worry about children in the game back then.

What I dont want is to see this as a add-on. I think that this idea of add-ons to the game are getting a bit ridiculous...[External image] If the player isn't directly affected by it, whats the point of making it an add-on? Dont want it, dont go looking for it. But thats a whole different subject...[External image]

If this ever gets implemented it'll most likely be a addon...The only way i see this not being a addon is if its a very high quality mod which is going to require a decent amount of work. I mean you theres a couple things to keep in mind to implement these characters like

1. what original npcs get children?

2. written dialog

3. Will and how are they voice acted?

4. where do the children live?

5. what do they wear?

6. what do they look like?

7. how many children will be implemented?

8.Whats their daily routine?

9. Whos going to do all this?

10. etc

Its not that im against children it just needs to be at a certain quality to be anything more than a addon.

Actually I meant in general, not just for Beth games. This karma thing is so funny lol!

Yes this will mostly likely be the way it will be implemented but it might still be a plugin. We will have to see.

I was talking more generally about the project, every new idea brought up to modernize the game tends to be told it will be an add-on... I think that if there are 25 different add-ons it gets quite ridiculous, especially when some of them dont affect players unless they go out looking for it.[External image] Adding children is different and I guess it would make sense for this to be an add-on, but ya know... I would like to see more consolidarity to this with maybe settings to turn on the stuff we are marking as add-ons.[External image]

And LASentry, I know, im not sure whats up with the karma. Its ridiculous to see comments get downvoted for no reason...[External image]

I think this, and other things like idle banter - anything that is actually needed to bring the mod to the same immersion level as Skyrim as far as NPCs go, should be part of a special 'mod package' that the team actively works on to put out after a Beta is made, maybe to be consolidated into an eventual build of the mod itself.  Priority should go to finishing the game as it was, but we should take such things as this into consideration.  Some of the NPCs even in Morrowind are described as the children of other characters and would be likely 'teens'.  (Like the invisible imperial in Vivec).  While buildings and interiors are being done, in preparation for the eventuality of children, more rooms/beds should be added to households that will host them.  Perhaps even buildings could be added with no interior yet to be converted to orphanages later in larger cities like Vivec and Balmora.  This stuff will be easier to implement now, rather than trying to kajigger it later.

Hmm, I reckon that children are fine (too be honest) We just need to have them strategically placed and with good models/voices. And you should actually be able to have a short conversation with them e.g. asking for directions (it would make sense because children often like to feel needed).

^Good idea!

Is it maybe even possible to have child labor in Morrowind, children working in the kwama mines or in bars. I'm not sure how the Dunmer and the Empire see this kind of things but it could be a possibility. I remember in Skyrim that in a inn in the Reach a child worked as a barman serving food and drinks. But if something like this would happen it should be pretty rare I think. But it might take things a bit to far.

Just throwing some ideas out there

Since the subject been already resurrected...

One thing i would LOVE to see if anyone will create children addon - thieving kids. Similar to kids from Fallout 2. It would be awesome if they tried to steal from other NPCs and get chased off by guards or said NPCs. Probably would require a bit of tinkering since you can not kill them and i think they won't be able to steal from player (which would be even better - especially if they could steal "low priority" items from you and then give them to one of the merchants. Vivec or Balmora would be grat places for something like this.

The inconsequential npc's mod for Skyrim adds urchins to some of the major cities. From the two children one would engage in conversation with you while the other would steal some gold from you. You could confront them about this theft but sadly the interaction stopped there and your 10 gold is gone. If this could be expanded on it would really be great if a system like this would be implemented.

These are all good ideas guys. But in the future put them on the game mechanics forum please so it's easier for me and Eham to get the suggestions. If you post stuff on the forum then they might actually become a reality. As for children, they will not be sexualized to the extent of the mod that was previously suggested. But we may put them in the core game. :)

I think i googled enough adequate mod with dunmer (and all other) children (more like teenagers). Named "Skykids" and contain scripts to use any armor on childs (should be preworked, however). I think team need to convert it's author to share his work in skywind.

I am all for children to be an add-on for those seeking further immersion, but as LASentry said it would have to be implemented correctly (ex: LA's dialogue suggestion). Also like ShuShine said if they are included they have to be detailed with his or better guidelines so they fit in and are not just shoved into Morrowind with no explaination.

Plus if done it would be cool if it was taken further allowing "Hearthfire" (DLC) families like a wife and adopted child from the streets. Lastly I feel like all the Dunmer/other races of children done so far are creepy looking and nothing worth using, so if after Skywind's full release it would be nice to consult with the top modelers of the mod (Skywind) to work on a much better and lore friendly looking children models.

In some sense children should be creepy as their dunmer parents.
That's another species. They need look as ape to man in some sense.

If you guys do decide to put children in the game, one idea might be to contact Emma and get permission to use her Children of Morrowind mod as a base. So rather than starting from scratch, you already have a conceptual foundation as far as placement, names, and NPC relationships are concerned.

Those elven children were better than the last one I'd seen, but tattoos in the face, lipstick, meh.  We can do better.  You wouldn't get tattoos until you've stopped growing, or it would get all distorted.  Usually a rite of passage into adulthood even better - perhaps a mark of identity!  Ashlander men could get tattoos of their wife's tribe when they marry to signify their becoming part of that tribe.  Unmarried Ashlander Dunmer would lack the tattoos.

Oh yeah... Children.  There are a few teenagers (or NPCs heavily implicated to be teenagers) in Vanilla Morrowind.  Eham might help us make new copy races for adolescent NPCs for these Vanilla NPCs and later we could add children as part of Phase 2.

Yeah I mean I get what your saying Alysander about children looking odd like their parents design, but most of the Dunmer children mods so far just look so out of place for the Elder Scrolls to use. I feel the first step is for people to create concept for them, then go from their to create the new models.

Plus I would be so adorable to see Khajjit Kitten faced models.

> but tattoos in the face, lipstick
= i installed this mod. Face is customizable as on adults. That's just some proportions modification.

>  You wouldn't get tattoos until you've stopped growing
= That's painting i think.

> we could add children as part of Phase 2.
= simultaneously will be better, IMHO. I hope team will add many new citizens in general and about 25% of population could be children/teenagers.

I think that's primary source. Site need registration and obviously have adult thematic.

Ohh love the idea of more citizens and possibly bigger cities for the sake of immersion of course. Definitely would be against children having tattoos and makeup, "What is this Skywind beauty pageant?".

It all comes down to research of how Dunmer grew up, on if the tattoos were a ritual thing required for aging in Morrowind. However my personal opinion on their childhood would be that, tattoos are required when a teen becomes an adult, so I would opt for no children tattoos. As for the magic aspect magic training begins a early stages in Morrowind for Dunmer (8-12 to start and continues into adulthood).

My opinion on that Mod (Skykids) would be it could be a nice start to base ideas on it, but to use it (asking permission obviously) the children designs look out of place (that may be due to the textures used).

There was a thread on Children in Skywind before, we ultimately said no unless we had properly modeled children with 3 different ages, all races and proper outfits.

> 3 different ages
= that very low % possible. I don't even know game with 3 diff childs ages at general. Original skyrim have only one model at all.

> all races and proper outfits
= this condition is satisfied i think.

> we ultimately said no unless
= who said? or just pls give me reference.

I think that's most advanced/successful child-related mod project now.

Lots of people. I can't find the thread anymore, it was by someone called GendunDrup though. The "low percentage" is what makes the idea so good. Yes Alysander, I think everyone who has ever played Skyrim knows that there is only one child model.

I like the idea to add childer to skywind but... only if killable...

Can someone please lock this thread? It does not help the devs when an already decided topic is brought up again for no reason.

This wasn't brought up for no reason and I don't think it should be already decided.  I'd love to see children in Skywind who go around thieving, playing games and doing childish things.  Even if there were only 5-6 reused models I'd prefer it to none. The only way to ensure it's done right is to include it in the mod.

> is brought up again for no reason.
= new models for children/teens is some reason i think.

It would be cool to have children in Skywind whit behaviors which mentioned Sasquatch but the only problem is if we have enough manpower to do that.
