Hi, having observed some difficulties with the organisation of voice acting, I was wondering what people thought of the following scheme, or something resembling it:
- Have a separate audition thread. It would be used for people to submit their auditions, and, optionally, a single reply indicating either acceptance, rejection, or necessary improvements. This would mean that newcomers would know broadly what is good and bad.
- Further discussion and improvement to take place via some other channel - e-mail or PM, so as not to clutter the thread.
- Have a separate topic or topics to discuss overall direction for the different voices. I suggest this because of the current confusion over the Nord style, but also noone would really know what to aim for without trawling through the thread at the moment.
- Maybe a further topic for the basic instructions (but it could also be the first post(s) in the audition thread) with the spreadsheet, links to guides for Audacity, suggestions regarding microphones, how to package up files for audition and for final submission, etc.
The principle aim would be to save people from having to look through all 3100 posts in the main thread if they want to know what has happened with their audition, or to learn about what style is desired. This is exacerbated by the fact that there's no way (as far as I can see) to get a link to a user's most recent posts - so if you want to go straight to a mod's judgements about auditions, there's no way other than going backwards through the main thread. Likewise, at the moment I wouldn't want to hold forth on style discussion in the main thread because navigation is difficult enough, so separating that stuff out could make those discussions easier to have.
Of course, this would work best if the existing posts were also separated out, but perhaps that is not just impractical but impossible.
