[RELz] GRATES by Gyros

All the models in this thread need to be redone for legal and esthetic purposes before we will do a release . If you feel like you can contribute by doing some or all of these models then please leave a comment at the bottom of this thread.

Let us know what 3d modeling program and also what year it is you use, as we need to find out if we need to convert the files for you or get you setup with appropriate importers.

Hi,

Hi,

Its a bit clumsy, but i would like to to do some of this "simple" meshes for you guys to start somewhere. These Doors and bars should be ideal for me. I am graphic designer (32 Years old). Working with cinema 4d Release 14, at the moment. What else do i need, except for the will to learn and to work on a project until its done right?

http://www.cyrillmoser.ch/3d/

greetings!

Ok

Ok

Maybe someone can help me. I Downloadet nif skope.

The cool thing is its not that complex to open nifs in nif skope and export an obj., open it in cinema 4d and edit them. It don't even needs blender ^^. As far as i can say the meshes look as they should, Normals are correct shading looks good.

I bought Morrowind from Steam, unpacked the bsa files and here they are. The nifs ready to be redone. my problem is though, i can't find the right files, since they are named different. ^^

thanks for the help. (solved)

Yes, got the files

Yes, got the files

Post this just to let you now i'm on it. Slow but steady. Its basic, still WIP. Went to the place in game to get an impression of the scene and make some Screenshots. However, i couldn't every object. Think i' ve got got the theme.

ps. Triangulation is done at the end. Think its easier this way.

Gyros you have a choice, you

Gyros you have a choice, you can either bake this object to a unique set of UVs, or you can ask for an all purpose iron bar/grate texture and UV the shapes to that texture.
The latter is more efficient, but requires vertex painting to make it look varied.

If you prefer the latter version, we will create the texture so u can make a batch of similar assets

Hello Ravanna

Hello Ravanna

Thanks for the offer

I think i pick the second option. I guess its better to use a texture from somebody that's more experienced. Plus you have already a better vision of how the different pieces should fit together as a whole. I'm still working on the mesh tough.

Creating a good UV-Mesh is challenging enough for the moment.^^ Wanna give it a try tough.

ps. one of these grates is under water, in game maybe it should not have any rust on it.

Dont know witch one :/

ok ive been meaning to do an iron common bar texture.
I will do a quick version, u let me know how u find it, and what changes could be made.

An underater grate can be uvd the very same way.
perhaps we can havea a more rusty version.
but mostly we increase gloss level and darken the vert colours.

Are you familiar with vert colours?
This may be of help to u.

I don't know to be honest.

I don't know to be honest. Lets try out then we get an idea. Also i have to see your texture first and play with it. When i do a unique texture chances are high that it won't fit in to the rest of the scenery. There has to be some coherency.

That doesn't mean i would not love to do some textures of my own though. :)

Okay, first, let me say bravo

Okay, first, let me say bravo on your first UV unwrap. I don't see any problems with your unwrap, but unfortunately, the texture isn't too good. It looks like grey with white specks(it's difficult to tell at this resolution). Also, it seems as though every rust spot has an indented normal; although, this is accurate since rust eats away at the metal. The rust looks strange because the indent is so extreme.  I think of your rust as some sort of acid dripping onto the surface which isn't realistic. Rust is a slow corrosive build up. It spreads fast, but it eats slowly.

Thanks for the feedback. I

Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking the same. Metal is to grainy. Also good thoughts on the rust. With your input might start again and do it better. Its hard though. My texture-repertoire is limited. Also a pro has probably a different approach/workflow. Maybe they paint the whole texture from scratch?

Models Are done so far.

Well - another case where

Well - another case where highpoly bake would probably help and it wouldn't be hard at all to create it in zbrush or similar program. A while ago i wrote .. erm... tutorial-like thing that might be helpfull if you never baked anything. If you want to see it, let me know :)

@tommythegun: ATM i don't have the equipment or skill to do the textures as you told. I would love to see your tutorial anyway though.

Sorry i did not show up for such a long time.

Happym felix and I were working on a common iron texture that requires no baking, I'll take a look soon.
