I am advancing through the main quest and have gotten to the quests to become horator of the great houses. I started with house televani and became horator successfully. However, i moved on to house Hlaalu and cant continue. I talked to Curio and got his blessing to be Hlaalu horotor. Curio also gave me the yellow book that gives the location for the other Hlaalu councilors. However, when i approach the other councilors, i cant talk to them about the topic: Hlaalu horotor. I am stuck and cant figure out what to do. and i saved my game after this problem (before i relized), and my back up is at least 20hrs back.

Brainslasher: The topic doesnt exist. I can't speak to any of the Hlaalu counselors except for Curio about Hlaalu hortator. My jounal says: "i have been given a recent edition of the yellow book of great house Hlaalu. It lists the current Hlaalu counselors and their residences.
The entry before: "after i gave him a kiss, Crassius Curio gave me his vote for hortator of house Hlaalu"

It seems the only way to start their quests is to talk to Crassius about the topic "Little Suggestion". After that he will give you even more advice.

If you did kill him you should have an active quest called "Convincing Orvas Dren" which tells you that you killed him unless you used a companion or the console to kill him.
Looking at the original CS I see that there is one piece of dialogue with an alternative set of conditions missing that wasn't converted. Though both have the same dialogue they have different conditions, one specifically for when Dren is dead and one when he's alive. Only one of them was put into Morroblivion though. So if he's dead you won't be able to start the other quests. This fixes that. You should be able to talk to Crassius about "Little Suggestion" now.

Does the topic not even appear or do they refuse to talk to you? See if their disposition towards you is high enough. Also what are the journal entries for the Hlaalu Hortator quests that you have received so far?
