beginning the game without character creation

Submitted by Opal-Eyed Fan on

I think it's a small issue and maybe no issue at all, but I think maybe it could be concidered to limit the players a little bit at the start of the game.

If the player starts a fight onboard the ship, the player gets arrested and wakes up in a prisoncell far away, without birthsign, without class, without a package to deliver, without a clue. In contrast, if the player tries to pick a fight with the Emperor's blades at the beginning of Oblivion all he/she get's is a warning.

Also in Morrobliovion, the player can simply jump off the ship once the player gets up on deck and go any where and do whatever, without birthsign and having no chosen class. Maybe  use collision boxes  around the ship?

This is no problem for anyone experienced, because we all played through Morrowind so we know the drill and how to get through the charactercreation process and get our first mission delivering the package to that guy in Balmora etc.

However a person who played Oblivion, bought the Game of the year Morrowind because he/she knew of this awesome mod, and wanted to experience morroblivion without playing the original first, might possibly get into trouble here?

Yoshimo had placed collision boxes all around the ship. I deleted them. If somebody gets in trouble, then they are in trouble. It is up to them to fix it. There is nothing I hate worse in mods than forcing players to do exactly what the designers had in mind. I removed the collision boxes so that if you don't want to go into the office then you don't have to. There are plenty of clues along the way that this is what the player is 'supposed' to do. If somebody ignores the clues, well, they can always come back... The other things that you talked about are great ideas for a mod. I have combined all the Morroblivion "fixes" I could into a Master File for this very reason, so that people can make true "mods" to do whatever they want. Be careful, however, as the Master is still changing rapidly.

Yeah I've thought about this one too.  The chargen quest is really not the same as the one in Morrowind at all - in fact, it is one of the most noticeable differences.

As the Master file stabilizes I am planning on releasing a mod that gives you some options right off the bat.  Ideally, I would like to have a mod that makes the player start out in a black, empty cell after the opening video, with a dialogue box that immediately pops up and asks if you want to:

1) Start out in Morrowind (Normal) - just like original Morrowind, or as close as we can get
2) Start out in Morrowind (Quick) - skips the n00b tutorial stuff, kind of like what we have now, but faster
3) Start out in Oblivion (Normal) - just like original Oblivion, start in the prison cell etc.
4) Start out in Oblivion (Quick) - drops you off just before the sewer exit with the amulet of kings and some of the Chargen Quest loot in your inventory

Choices people, we need choices :)

Thanks for reply, I like how you make Morroblivion easy to mod for with your master file.

On a sidenote : Have you concidered making an optional morroblivion mod that puts the morrowind intro bik file in the oblivion intro bik file's place? So that the game opens with morrowinds intro? Then maybe just have the oblivion intro bik play the first time the player travels to Cyrodiil?

thermador: Good idea about those choices, quick start comes in handy when testing mods, and normal start is to me essential for a good gaming experience.

Great  mod by the way, remake of all those quests and all. I love it!

Hi, I'd like to request what Opal-eyed fan described in the post just above this one.

I must be a nearly extinct breed... but I've never played Morrowind, ever. (Oblivion either!) :) But it seemed kind of odd to start Morroblivion with Oblivion's intro.

Thanks!
