Quest Journal Entries

Submitted by Darth South on

I think all the quest journal entries should be rewieved. Most of the quest entries don't give enough information to complete quests without looking to UESP.

I think it will be a nice addition to Help Requested page.

I have been trying to think of a way to contribute to this project, and this issue seems simple enough (although time-consuming) to be fixed with my limited CS skills.

So if nobody else is willing to take this task, then I will.

Every Journal Entry that I have ever looked at is word for word from the WIKI, including some of the typos. Editing Journal Entries is not really something I would recommed, or support, except to correct typos or direction. This would, however, be the perfect type of thing for a mod.

Well, yes we are playing Morrowind, but if can get Morrowind even better, why not then? If we have a person that have time(which we now have), he/she at least can add new directions, and infos to finish the quest. These things are exactly what VERY LIMITED modders like me and Haldur should do, thing time-consuming and do not need talent.

I know, you want this do not exactly look like Oblivion, and want to preserve the freedom that Morrowind offered. Still I think this would not limit, however get your things rather easier. If you do your quests exactly after you take in, then no problem; howsoever if you make a list then attend to them, you need UESP.

I believe this would surely get the quality of Morrowind higher, which is the main objective of this project.

The problem with the current Morroblivion journal is that in Morrowind you also had a list of all the topics you've clicked in conversations in your journal, where you could for example check where a certain person is located, if somebody had already told you that information.

In oblivion there is no such feature, so all the information needed to complete the quest had to be in the quest journal entry. So morrowind's quest journal entries don't have enough information to complete some quests if they are planted straight into oblivon.

That is what "Mods" are for. Take a look at Nexus; there are a few "Mods" for Oblivion there... If you see something about the game that you want to make different, then make a mod.

I certainly know what mods are, I've been using many many mods in Morrowind and Oblivion, so no need to lecture me about that. So this would be a mod that would slightly change the guest journal entries to be a bit more informative. What I'm adding to these quest journal entries is just a bit more guidance, not a total rewrite. For example a Fighters Guild quest journal entry:

"Lorbumol gro-Aglakh asked me to collect a Juicedaw Feather Ring from Nar gro-Shagramph in Vivec."

How are you supposed to know where that person is with only that journal entry? Only through some wiki. What I would change it into is:

"Lorbumol gro-Aglakh asked me to collect a Juicedaw Feather Ring from Nar gro-Shagramph in Vivec, Hlaalu Canton Plaza."

OK, then send me a mod with your fixes. I have altered some of the quests so that they do not conflict with each other, so technically the game is no longer 100% vanilla anyway.
