I'm having difficulties finding the potion textures

Submitted by Opal-Eyed Fan on

in the folder Additional Support Files 2\Data\Meshes\clutter\potions\morro\m, there are some potions.

They turn up purple for me.

I can't seem to find the textures to go with these potions anywhere, I looked in Additional Support Files 2, Eloth Misc Items & Ingredients, Additional Support Files 1, Morroblivon Complete Installation Part 2, Morroblivon Complete Installation Part 3, Morroblivon Complete Installation Part 1.

the potions nifs are

MiscUPotionUBargainU01

MiscUPotionUCheapU01

MiscUPotionUExclusiveU01

MiscUPotionUFreshU01

MiscUPotionUQualityU01

MiscUPotionUStandardU01

 missing textures:

textures\clutter\potions\morro\m\kupotionubargainu01.dds

textures\clutter\potions\morro\m\KUPotionUBargainUSquirt.dds

textures\clutter\potions\morro\m\KUPotionUCheapUSquirt.dds

Textures\clutter\morro\m\KUExclusiveU01.dds

Textures\clutter\morro\m\KUExclusiveUInU01.dds

Textures\clutter\morro\m\KUPotionUFreshU01.dds

Textures\clutter\morro\m\KUQualityU01.dds

Textures\clutter\morro\o\KUQualityUInside.dds

I'm not using any texture mods.

an older version of the potions do exist in the   Morroblivon Complete Installation Part 1, but those are original looking potions with original looking textures. So they get overwritten by the ones in    Additional Support Files 2  which require textures I can't find.

Same here. I didn't say anything because I could find only one other report of this, and she eventually got it to work; hence I've been assuming I was doing something wrong (and still am, really). If it were a bug I'd expect to see lots of complaints, as potions are all over the place...

That said, I can't understand her fix. It looks to me like she's saying fresh extraction of the second support files pack should do the job, but it doesn't, and neither does the first support nor the three "complete install" packs contain the files you've listed.

Thus far I haven't used WyreBash or anything like that, I just extract archives straight into my game folder and use OBMM to sort out the load order. I'm not using a separate "Misc Item Replacer", nor am I using Eloth's Visual Overhaul.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Today I updated from v33 to v47, but the textures still aren't loading. Is/was it just us messing up the install process somehow, or is this simply a bug that applies to everyone without Eloth's pack?!

Most of my mind is jumping up and down yelling "yes, bug!", but there are other issues that makes me doubt my competence here. For example, back when I updated from v32 to v33, it killed all my grass. Around that time I spotted this thread, which suggests later versions should fix it, but no... Likewise, a number of other bugs I encountered before still exist within my game, such as it being impossible to initiate the fake soul gem quest (apparently David was able to run through the entirety of the mage guild questline prior to posting v36?).

Though again, I suspect some bugs - quest-related ones specifically - will probably require an entire fresh install of Oblivion to get rid of, as once the bad "flags" or whatever have triggered, that's that.

OBMM insists I still have a v33 ESM when I get a tooltip for the file, though if I open it in eg a hex editor I can see an updated file description stating v47 there, so I'm pretty sure OBMM is just refusing to update a cache.

I got the same problem as you. And the solution came when I installed the Morroblivion Mod Pack. Somehow, once I installed it the textures were in its correct placeand the purple bottles gone.

I used to report  things like this, but got told I was installing everything wrong so often I just quit saying anything. Now, I just fix whatever I find myself and move on.

Thanks guys, I'll consider it a bug, then.

I took a cruise through some installation archives and it seems Additional Support Files 2 and Eloth Misc Items & Ingredients contain the same potion meshes, as listed by Opal (file sizes and time stamps are identical). Neither contains the textures for those meshes. I'm assuming they came from the visual overhaul and are only in the "vanilla" packs by accident; presumably, the intention is that the older meshes contained in Morroblivion Complete Install Part 1 (same names, smaller filesizes) are the ones which should actually be used, in which case the Support Files / Items & Ingredients packs should have their potion meshes removed.

Either that, or the missing textures should be added to one of those two packs. Items & Ingredients seems appropriate, even if it's not supposed to be updated... either way, there isn't a good reason for the potion meshes to exist within both.

Actually I have them pretty clear, and I think the same with everynody else. It is not a problem with the project itself. I have never thought this was insultive(if so my apologies), but you made a mistake while installing the game. It's a pretty complicated one. I could advice re-downloading misc item eloth pack.

I'd have a lot more problems then just the potions if I were missing it, and the installation page states that pack has never been updated since it was released.

Nonetheless, to be on the safe side, I've redownloaded it at your suggestion... however, it still does not contain the textures listed above.

I should probably also note that I redownloaded/reinstalled Additional Support Files 2 when updating to v47.

As a simple test, I restored the old meshes from the Complete Install 1, resulting in old potion meshes which are textured correctly - there are no problems with those old meshes. Extracting Misc Items & Ingredients directly on top of that mix results in the new potion meshes with no textures, as pictured by Opal.

I first installed Morroblivion back before Additional Support Files 2 / Misc Items & Ingredients were released. It was only when the new meshes were added to those packs that the potion textures broke.

I have also checked every archive he listed, and cannot see the files mentioned. I remain convinced that they're available to mod users only, and hence either the textures should be added to one of the "mandatory" installation packs, or the new meshes removed from the "mandatory" installation packs.

they are probably only available in morroblivion visual overhaul pack.

David should move these files to the additional support files.

I had the same potion texture issue without the big "Morroblivion Mod Pack" installed, only separated mods such as Eloth Visual Overhaul, Morroblivion Miscellaneous Items & Ingredients... This issue happened when I've updated from V42 to V46 if I remember. So the updated Additional Support Files 2 seems to be responsible for this issue. I came back to original potion meshes from Morroblivion Complete Installation Part 1 and the issue is resolved. I can't say if the potions has now the original textures or not, but the fact is that they're no longer pink, I'm satisfied with that.

Don't look at my mistakes, english is not my native language.

Have fun.

Closing this issue.  This kind of stuff shouldn't be a problem anymore now that the complete installation is available...

However it still COULD be a problem for anyone who tries to put together Morroblivion in the manner described above...
