I have the quest to kill Telvanni agents in a cave near Caldera Mine. CTD occur everytime when I am about to enter the Caldera Mine region - when I start to see the interior of the "crater". I have a save - . To crash the game - just go few steps towards the mine. I use OBSE and almost all mods/files from recomended downloads. I usually do not turn off "distant land", but even turning it off does not help. I also have this purge cells mod.

I tried your savegame and this seems to be related to cell buffers.

I get a 100% crash-rate when using your save as is. But I can 100% avoid the crash by opening the console (~) and typing in "pcb" and enter (to manually clear cell buffers) before moving on.

So in genereal ... when you get a coonsistent crash manually type in pcb into the console.

On a side note: increasing the size of cell buffers from Oblivion.ini doesn't help at all.

Strange. I did not change any settings, and right now I also was able to enter it and finish the quest. I only had to return to caldera (using fast travel - so the game loaded/purged etc IMO) and then returned to the Mine (and entered it without problems). So maybe the game was "overloaded" or something like it and my action (fast travel to Caldera and then going back) cleared the problem. Before that crash chance was 100%.

The PCB mod purges cells on each cell change (or each fifth cell change if you use that version). The crash in your save game was however happening right on the cell change (when the mine area was supposed to load) ... so I guess that the pcb mod never got a chance.

I guess we could make our own version of the PCB mod which purges cell buffers after small time intervals rather than on cell changes.

I wish there was a way we could see how full the cell buffer is, and then purge it whenever it gets close to an overload. That way it would only purge when necessary.

Would something like that even be possible?
